So after looking for a VW Golf or Polo TDI for a while, found this for a good price. The bodywork was almost immaculate so was the inside and I noticed it had cruise control too (don't think the seller even knew as he never said anything about it)

After giving it a drive around the block and a good overall visual inspection I decided to go for it!!!

Looks like a nice tidy example you have found yourself, cruise control is a nice perk for mpg in 40 and 50 zones on the motorway and you can suddenly forget about your speed too :)

What are your plans for it then?

Got some new number plates to go on, so gave it a good clean while the plates were off!

Got myself a Genuine VW replacement gear knob and gaiter just to freshen up the car!!!

Noticed the brakes were binding badly...... turned out it was the rear n/s pads were sticking, I think the piston seal in the caliper is probably shot but for now just stuck a new set of discs and pads on as the old ones were down to the metal, do plan on replacing the caliper when I get round to it but its not sticking atm so Il just monitor it :)

Got myself a set of 5x VW BBS San Marino Alloy Wheels for a pretty decent price, but they will need a refurb, I'm thinking polished lips on them, but not sure what colour faces to have yet :)

The refurb company wanted £80 to split and build the wheels so i decided to strip them myself.........

Managed to get all 60 bolts out no problem using a torque wrench and 12 point/triple square adapter (46nm recorded for re-build)

I used a block of wood in the centre of the faces and hit the wood with a hammer to knock the centres out, it didn't take much force :)

Picked up 2x sets of locking wheel nuts for when I eventually get my wheels on..........

Next on to lows......

Looked into getting coilovers as I wanted my car low but didn't really fancy just springs as they were quite limited

Was very tempted to buy the JOM coilover kit as the price is very affordable but after reading a few reviews and speaking to someone who had JOM on their polo decided not to get them and wait and spend a bit more.

I had been highly recommended AP coilovers by my friend who had replaced his JOM's for AP's on his polo. He said the ride was really goodon the AP's, miles better than the JOM's

After doing a bit of reading found out that the AP coilovers come out of the same factory as KW and Weitec coilovers, so very high quality German products.

So kept my eyes open for a set.........

Found a set of AP coilovers on gumtree for a good price and the condition looked really good compared with some sets I had seen.

They had apparently only been fitted for approximately 4000 miles and to be fair they arrived I was surprised how clean they were! :)

Got to work and ordered some Bilstein Febi Top mounts for the front struts

The coilovers had came with one top mount fitted which wouldn't be needed so I removed it and got myself 2x new nyloc nuts to fit to the front struts when I put my new top mounts on (btw the nuts are fine pitched thread!!!)

I had to mod my ring spanner to get deep enough in the top mount to hold the nut when tightening

AP coilovers all built with new top mounts ready to go on!!!!

Nice work, spot of genius going on with the spanner mod and it looks very tidy too!

You look like you know what your doing and the set up should be very nice, I wish I had bought a 9n tdi rather than a bluemotion tdi. I've covered 15000 in it and only washed it twice! That's how much I don't care for it lol the mk2f has seen about 5000 miles and been washed about 20 times [emoji38]

Had a go at removing the rear shocks and springs....... and after breaking 2 cheap 3/8 extension bars getting the upper strut bolts out managed to remove both shock and spring fairly easily!!! :)

On inspection I noticed that the rear bump stops were really worn and split in places so I decided to replace them as well before fitting the rear coilover shocks........

I wasn't quite happy with how low the rear was sitting so I decided to remove the rear adjusters altogether (apparently this is ok according to quite a few users) and tbf the original springs are only seated the same way without an adjuster platform! :)

Finally......... looking way better now....... just need to get the fronts on......driving round like I'm in a cadillac!!!!!

Decided to get a garage to do the front as I found I would need to remove the driveshaft and all sorts, so I thought it was best to leave it to the professionals!!

I had a quote of £150 plus VAT to fit them from a garage in Solihull............. no way was I paying that!!!! lol :p

.............so I called my friend who has a garage and he fitted them for £50!!!!!! Buzzin!!!!!

It came down off the ramp and onto the wheels. It looked sickkkkkkk, no other word to describe it!!!! :)

Really happy with the height and ride of the car. The AP coilovers are absolutely fantastic, better than stock suspension and really good for daily driving!!! :)
