Got myself a Mk8 Polo aerial to replace my dodgy aerial which has been repaired with some kind of tape at some point?!?!

Freshens the car up a bit, lets hope the radio reception is just as good as the original???

  • Top car, I nearly bought the version with body kit last year for my wife but the flywheel was on its way out. Yours look spot on.

My drivers mirror doesn't clear when the electric mirrors are on so I think the circuit is gone on the mirror itself?!

As the mirror backing had started to come away as well, I decided to replace the drivers mirror glass

Picked up a genuine VW replacement glass for a good price! :)

Fitting was pretty easy too!!!

Will have to get some pictures in the dry!!!!!!

As the keys were a bit worn I decided I would place the remote key internals into new housings...........easier said than done!!!!

I moved what I thought was everything, but when I tried to start the car the immobiliser icon came on and the car would not start!!! :(

Re-checked the old key and I hadn't moved the immobiliser chip over?!?! Ooooops

Its quite difficult to remove the immobiliser chip as its glued in!!!! Tried soaking it in acetone, but it didn't really affect the glue?!?!

Got there eventually tho!!! :)

Thanks man, its not missed a beat yet! Great little cars!!! :)

good build you have going here love the look on the stock wheels!!!

Looks great man! Really like the splits and can't wait to see them on the car!

best of luck

  • Author

Thanks for the comments! Looking forward to getting the splits on too, just got to get the money together for the refurb and I'm going to need 2 new tyres too!

Cracking work so far mate.

Impressed with you getting the San Marino's unbolted ok.

I have a set for sale on ebay at the mo but I'm thinking perhaps I should keep them, refurb them and sell them on for more money.

Have you seen some of the finishies that people have done to them?

Guy from Croatia did his with a gloss white face, BBS centre caps with the initials BBS in Red and the rest was diamond polished. Looked totally amazing!

I don't know what your future plans are but I have a brand new Milltek 2.5" de-cat downpipe and centre section available. I bought it from Awesome GTi but never fitted it as I saved it for a future build along with a GTB1756VK turbo, intercooler and injector set up.

Now that I'm not pursuing that (due to buying a BMW 320d) I have it sitting in my garage unused with a turbo gasket too.

Luckily for the Polo, it's staying with us and the wife is having it.

Looking good Dave,

How you getting on with the AP coilovers? How far down are they in the washing pics? Room to go lower?

I'm after very low and trying to avoid the price of H&R 'Ultra Lows'!

Few new updates coming soon........ :)

Would love to see those San Marino's in white and diamond polished, put a link or a picture up if you can?! :)

Mine are in the wheel shop atm, dropped them off today!

Going for silver and polished lips, was thinking black or grey, but not too keen on others I've seen?!

  • Author

Similar to these!!!!! ;)

@edryn80

In the car wash picture they are fully down on the back with no adjusters in.

On the front they are about 3/4 of they way down with still with more to go.

I have since moved them up a few coils, it's taken the strain off the shocks and onto the springs, way quieter now, almost silent and comfortable as my day-to-day drive! :)

Will upload a picture of it at the weekend!

Managed to finally get a genuine VW roof spoiler for my car, it is off a 9n3 polo GTI, and is in fantastic condition!

Currently at the paint shop, will be ready this weekend............

Here's a few pictures of it before it went to the paint shop :)

Also picked up a drivers side de-lock blank which also required painting, will be ready along with my spoiler ;)

Do you fancy a Milltek 2.5" de-cat downpipe and centre section?

I have both parts available new and unused and a turbo gasket.

Cheers

@stevenb9n

Man I'm tempted, they look awesome, thanks for the quick reply!!! :)

Need to make my mind up soon as the wheels are at the wheel shop now?!?!?!

Not interested in the exhaust at the minute bro thanks for the offer tho, would like to put 130 injectors and 130 turbo on at some point or a 130 engine, but need more funds first! ;)

They do indeed!

Shame, I just sold a set of PD130/150 injectors new bosch seals and injector bolts..

As you have got the wheels apart yourself a shop should paint them no probs.

I was quoted £600 for a refurb due to the bolts snapping so they said. No way I told them.

I would rather do what you did and sort them myself.

Got mine on ebay so if they don't sell I might follow suit and refurb myself.

Are you buying new bolts to replace the original ones?

  • Author

£600 is way overpriced, split them yourself!

These particular bbs bolts are made from titanium so I doubt you'd snap one off!!

I plan on using the original bolts. There is no reason not to, I have soaked them in coke overnight which has removed most debris but might try some cillit bang before I re-build the wheels! :) will also be using some locktite as they were originally installed with locktite or similar.

Just had a quick look on ebay and the bbs bolts are selling for £29,95 for 10!!! (There are 60 bolts altogether 5x wheels)

That's a fair chunk of money for bolts so like you say, if they come up clean then they should be ok.

Titanium bolts can snap as they can turn brittle.

This is common on bike parts where they have been over tightened.
