I'm looking to add some security measures to my breadvan and wondering what other people have done and if you could point me in right direction of some good products. been looking on ebay at alarms and such but dont really know what i should be looking for.

Take anything valuable out. Don't lock it. Buy a disclok.

disklok , flashing led on the dash , alarm stickers and never leave any valubles in the car

alarm too if you will hear it and want to go to court when you batter the theif...everyone else will ignore it

I think disklok seems to be best move and I never leave anything valuable inside it, thinking of some sort of like kill switch hidden under dash?

Depends who you are protecting your car from.

An additional kill switch will offer no protection against someone with a very basic understanding and 12" of wire (they dont need to find your switch to disable it).

no harm in having a switch , but without posting a how to i think the average polo woulb be pretty to get going , and the dash is so simple its hard to hide any kill switches so they cant be got at easily

it aint going no where with a disklok unless they're dead set on taking it in which case its going anyway

if you have a big audio system never ever blast in your home town or close to home , dont get know as the polo with the subs /amps etc

Thing is, compared to how it used to be, most car thieves now are just spazes who smash anything they don't understand. I can get into a mk2 and start it with three basic tools and no damage. If they encounter resistance, its bent door, smashed up dashboard and wires everywhere.

I have a separate isolator key/switch in mine, I take the isolator key with me, but again it is bridgeable if you know what you're doing and where it is.

Mine has a separate switch for the electric fuel pump. Its completely separate to the normal stuff. I'm sure someone would find it eventually, but the car will only get 100m before the carbs are empty if that.

If they find the switch I'm buggered.

Disk locks and alarm stickers and flashing lights may put a few opertunist said off, BUT it could attract other kinds of scum. They might looked at it as if you spent the time and money on securing it it must be worth something.

Polls are not the most difficult things to get into, so stopping someone breaking a window and running off with the spare change on the seat etc is almost impossible. As above just make sure nothing valuable is on sight.

I have purposefully clean out the glove box and centre consoles etc and left them open when I park up in certain places. I have even folded the rear seats down and even left it u locked at times to show its empty and there is little point in modifying the windows for me.

The one and only device I can recommend (from personal experience) is a tracking device. Problem is they would probably cost more then the car and hiding it is going to be tricky. There is also the fee every year and the fact that there are ways around them. That said, out of the 8 cars that were stolen from me the only one that returned was the one with the tracker.

Don't be quite so sure. My AEA on bike carbs will run for about 3 miles before the carb bowls are empty and it comes to a stop!

Yeah, they do, it's not to prevent a slim jim attack as such, but there is a fairly obvious way to attack any VW door lock of the era that these prevent. I don't think many people who are breaking into cars would know it though and the plates can be rust magnets if you get cheap ones.

Mine are always switched on the ignition, so they just assume the car is a POS and won't start.

Fuel pump isolation is nice - my bikes were configured like that.

A nice thought;

1) The theiving pieice of s*** would be 200 yards up the road

2) His mate already having fled

3) It cuts out...

4) One panicking theif running up the road (without the time to take a dump on the drivers seat << the risk with disabling the spark).

I sometimes dream of having the balls to set (semi?) lethal traps for these worthless scum.

Unfortunately an airbag in the headrest or such would see you liable for injury to the thief.

Alternatively, you could do nothing and make sure the brakes are in the good working order that they came from the factory in.

Therefore, assuming thieves will speed away, anyone who hasn't driven a polo mk2 before will abandon the 'death trap' the minute after they try to use the brakes.

wonder if many dirtbags know how to use a manual choke ....mine would sit there roaring over trying to start or rev its tits off if the choke is out

Battery isolator ..I just unscrew black knob and it just keeps a feed for the radio ..
