I'm looking for some information with how the wiring is laid out on a 5 Door 9N. I've had a set of component speakers that have been lying around for some time that I want to fit, but with the tweeters being located on the A-Pillar trim, where does the wires for these go? Some wiring diagrams I've seen show the wires coming down to the woofer in the door, but when I look at doors that have had the trim removed, I'm only seeing a two wire plug attached to the speaker.

The long and short of it is, Do I have to run new cables to the tweeters from the crossover that will be located in the door? or could I use any existing wires that maybe located in the door, and If there are, what colours are they/should they be?

The other alternative I'm thinking of would be to use an ISO cable extension on the back of the stereo, cut the speaker wires at source, attach the crossovers somewhere within the dash, re-attach the cut main speaker wire to the Woofer output, and then just running a new smaller length cable up to the A-pillar trim tweeter.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm always time limited with any job I do having two young boys.

The speaker positive & negatives come out from the radio ( right pin 3+ pin 4- & left pin 5+ pin 6-) and are then spliced, with one feed/return going though the door disconnect and on to the door speaker, the other feed/return goes direct to the tweeter on the A pillar

Thanks for the info, that ties up with what I'm seeing at the door speaker. So, the one of my plans to run the crossovers from behind the stereo would be the better option.

How difficult would it be to run wires to the door, through the door jam?

The door disconnects are under the dash with 4 pin connectors, the colour of the body side of the wiring is Red/Green (pos) & Brown/Green (neg) the contacts in the plugs/sockets are normally "Junior Power Timer" pins/sockets, have a look on www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk or www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu or ebay

On a side note of speakers, as my car is 5 door, would the rear door speakers cables have a similar feature (I assume the rear speakers are of component type too?) and would these connectors be in a similar position?

The connectors are on the door post, pull the rubber flexy tube off and you'll see the connectors, the rears are slightly different, there is only a pos & neg to a 4 pin connector on the door post and the tweeters are just parralled off the bass speaker connections

Forgive me for asking, are the relevant front door speaker connectors on their relevant door posts? and I'm guessing the rear door speakers will be on their respective door posts?

I have little time to go do this investigation work, so getting a heads up on their locations would be a huge advantage in maximizing my time in doing the work, so thank you again for all your info.

When you say "Flexi tube" what do you mean by that? Is it just a plastic cover over the cable's, and is it easily accessible?

I'm going by the details in the dealers manual the connectors (front & rear doors) are on the relevant door posts, the "flexy tube" is the rubber tubing that covers the wires from the doors to the door posts, they should just pull off from the door posts (might be a cable tie to cut ?)that will then reveal the connectors.

If your going to be adding new wires then you'll need to get access to the rear of the body side connectors, so that means under the dash for the front & behind the "B post" for the rear

Replacing speaker wiring is merely just a thought at the moment, I'm Just looking to upgrade the speakers for the time being, then eventually add a subtle amp and sub enclosure into the boot.

Hi, I see this thread is quite old but still very relevant for me. I bought an aftermarket speakers replacement kit but it doesn't really fit 100% so I need to be creative. Also came with no installation manual... I am replacing the front door and A-pillar speakers and installing a crossover. One door speaker is now installed (6.5" woofer) and I am struggling with the tweeter and crossover for the moment. Finding the location of the split is what brought me here. The crossover is approx an 8x6x3 cm box. Anyone else having done this before and have a suggestion to wiring/location for crossover? I have a 2006 9N/Mk4 1.2, 5-door

Any updates on this, i am also strugglng to find where the location is for the amp/tweeter wire. Can you post some pictures if you have any?
