To clarify is it 3.5" front and 4x6 back in a mk2f? And how easy/hard is it to put new speakers in. I think the wiring is all ready and speakers should just slot straight in (i will attach photos) some advice/ help would be much appreciated

4" I believe

They are 3.5" but 4" can be made to fit if you cut away a little plastic.

as for wiring I got a generic vw wiring Adaptor form eBay for 99p and it saved any cutting as access isn't great. 

If your going to cut the dash to fit a bigger speaker then I would strongly recommend taking the windscreen out as it makes it a lot easier. 

 

As as for the rears there are 4 plastic legs. I think vow used flat washer nuts to thread onto them. I'm ghetto so I used a soldering iron to melt them down over the speaker so it's never coming off :) also means less chance of rattles from vibration etc.

You have to run new wires. I ran them behind the rear door cards and along the sill under the carpet then up under the dash and out the radio slot. 

You need the same connectors, I think they are called junior timer connectors and they just crimp on. Or you can chop off a connector from a breakers yard and butcher it to get some and solder the wires together.
