Bought this Monster last September for £600 and nearly another 100 on bits since.

Since then i've got some second hand 40mm lowering springs and some shorter shocks of fleabay to even out the lows.

New strut mounts and ARB blocks as prescribed by the doctor. While taking it apart for this I noticed a wheel bearing had gone so when that came back in the garage and put it all back together about lunchtime today.

Plans for this car are to get rid of the tacky stickers I spaffed on the wing mirrors and get some black spray paint out. I'm thinking the Bonnet is a good place to get creative and possibly get some wheel arch extensions. Don't want to start messing about with the engine just yet. Also got some half leather Porsche Tombstones which should be going in this weekend. Now I know this won't be everyone's cup of tea but please no questions about the colour, people seem to think I don't want a bright purple car. Any other feedback or advise is greatly appreciated! :pardon:

So far I've only been driving her round the countryside with el Pappio in the passenger seat bricking it the whole time but with luck i'll be on the road in a couple weeks so thought I should get her out there. 8>)

Got this far on the new bonnet before it started raining, looks awful up close but it's black so it's all good. Just gotta wait for a decent day to get the purple on the stripes!

I'm liking the purple, painted my punto interior a similar shade :P just do what you feel looks right, also like the chunky tyres. Looking forward to seeing what happens

Thanks guys! Yeah this isn't any class show car it's my first lil banger so i'm gonna have some fun.

I'll post some more pictures when I get it back on the drive. Got a nice crack in the exhaust which is partly held up with cable ties but I don't see any urgency with that. Might do a diy straightpipe from the cat back.

The colour is a bit crazy, very different to the norm lol

Nice to see something different every now and then! Looking forward to more updates :)

This was her up the ghetto lift in a warehouse I was using. looked at the exhaust while i had the opportunity and found the exhaust was up with a couple of cable ties with nothing on the other side so I got the exhaust rubber outta the glovebox.

This was the result of the crappy cable tie work.

Anyone know what diameter that bit of pipe is? should have measured it while it was up but a straight pipe from there might make it sound a bit less like a one litre. She came with a free keyring!!!

be on the roads in a fortnight 8>)

I think... Its 42mm outter diameter, because I think the exhaust clamp I used was a 42mm on my Bready which is the same system.

Ill be up in a couple of weeks then :P Wanna see the cadbury wagen on the road!

Buying an engine now so gotta think about parts for the exhaust and sort out a couple things w the engine. Keeping an eye out for a 5 speed box aswell, should keep me occupied over summer.

New bonnet should be on tomorrow. Replacing the battery terminals and sorting out some of the wiring. Lockset and heater parts coming in aswell.

Forgot to mention replacing the indicator houses and bulbs to keep it legal [emoji106] done the side repeaters aswell and put some purple grenade dustcaps on. Just minor shiz.

I'm looking forward to this now, plans going forward in leaps and bounds mate :)

Anyone seen this before? Lol no idea what's wrong but might just chuck some rubber or metal under it? It's the above the strut mount and appeared when I replaced the shocks and springs.

got about another 20 kilowatts with the stripe now. Gonna be painting the roof and getting a rack someday. Pos some drift car wheel arches.

Nice car but the rims make it look like an old polo dune.

The strut gap is common, dont worry about it

Yea I like them but they don't really fit the car. Want some black banded steels and some stretched tyres ideally

Thanks dude, do you know what causes it? I'm not too worried because it drives beautifully now. Just doesn't look right so I wanna do something about it.

Banded steels get thumbs up

Its just part of the suspension design. Its one of the few cars where its not an mot faliure when present. 6n topcaps will reduce it

Put the new heater unit in which made me stupidly happy to have 3 fan settings. Gonna replace the lockset next time i get some spare time and hopefully the engine will be here in about a week so work can start on that. If anyone knows that the lupo sport gearbox can work with these any help would be great?

Make sure them wheels are not protruding the arches, or traffic police will have a field day....

Need to either make about 1.5cm through camber or stretching the tyres to get it at the front, rears fine

You'll not get camber on the front of a mk2f and you need to watch with stretched tyres now when it comes to the MOT.

Had you looked to see if they can be machined down at all so they sit better on the front?

Also looking at how the sit front and rear have you checked to see if the offset is the same all round?

  • Author

I'll go to a garage as they won't do anything that wouldn't get through an mot.

The wheel offsets are the same but the rear beams sagged and when I lowered the front it took about a degree of camber at the back and the rear beam had already sagged.
