Hi all, here is my newly aquired polo gt named hans. Was a very well known car on here a few years back and I'm sure many of his previous owners are still about on here. I picked it up in a real sorry state and so far iv thouroghly cleaned it up and fitted oem fogs! Il let the photos do the talking.

Looks great :) hopefully you keep it nice and clean and I'm glad you got rid of the checkered bonnet strip.

Was so tempted to buy this recently - the guy selling didn't want that much for it either.

I swapped it for an e36 318. Its not bad needs some attention as someones done some fairly poor welding on it and it keeps loosing power and juddering when sitting at a constant 50mph-60mph

Like the look of both cars what frong splitter do you have on Betsy the breadie ??

A lot of car for th e money though. Previous owners spent big money on it.

  • Author

Yes all 14 of them lol. Iv spent a fair amount in the 3 weeks iv owned it. And the splitter on the breadvan was just a random one out of a splitter bin at a breakers yeard. Couldnt tell you what it was off I'm afraid but its pretty hammered now 😂

Also thank you mark for sorting the pictures out.. been a long time since iv used this forum and couldnt remember how to do them

Yeah hes been around haha! It is staying standard. Wont be a very busy thread as i am trying to source rare goodies. I think thats my plan for it. Oem with as many goodies as i can find. My breadvan is the more modded one body wise but the coupe is far from standard underneath. Il update when i can

Hi all. little update.... i have just purchased the little gt back after seeing an add for it being broken for spares and feeling that it didnt deserve to die just yet! :(.... sadly its worse for wear as it had started to be broken for spares... fortunatly its only lost the mint interior and bbs but has also ran out of mot and requires some surgery welding wise to get it back on the road. will update with more pictures when i collect it withing next week or so but heres a sneak peak at the poot old thing :(

As i was bored and eager to pick up the gt at the weekend i decided i would carry on progress on my other polo betsy! i am currently modding a 6n 16v bumper to fit before having it skinned in carbon fibre along with the standard breadvan rear. on a downside though the plucky little 1.0 in the breadvan has died after 202k miles... although it still runs!

Good to see this being saved. When it was up for sale earlier in the year I questioned the owner on all the welding work as it failed two MOTs about 6 months apart both on corrosion related items. All I got as a response was the usual amount of Facebook seller abuse. Hopefully you can get it sorted and back on the road :)

Yes i bought the car of him and still got abuse(apparently the car i sold him i ripped him off somehow.. complete rubbish as car was described as it was) in actual fact i had been ripped off as the engine was a little worn on the GT. I believe it needs piston rings or valve guides/seals as blue smoke under load.. would you happen to know where i can get the parts to rebuild and save this car once again? Oh and it needs welding again.. looks like it had just been 'patched' of you could call it that ?

@wizardmanjm would be the man to speak to with GT rebuild parts as I believe he rebuilt a GT bottom end earlier in the year.

Yeah the impression I got from the previous owner was just the bare minimum had been done to get it passed an MOT.

Yeah deffinatly hadnt been done very well.. found old for sale threads from 2012 when it was on 95k and the spec list (as in consumables) matched exactly what the car had on it earlier this year with 125k! Poor thing had seen some abuse and neglect. I have plans to return it to former glory.... again. But atm its a bit of a shed due to it being half broken for spares

Update time: today i went and collected the polo. when i arrived it was completly flat due to sitting for 7 months untouched with no fuel mot or tax. so nipped over to the nearest halfords bought a battery some jump leads and a towrope expecting the worst to happen after having said issue of car sitting..... when to my amazement the plucky little GT cruised home at a steady 75-80 ;) all the way back from chelmsford to nuneaton. was running like absolute clockwork and had great fun playing and suprising a few people on the way back. the car needs a good clean and some nice wheels again and a few small niggles to bring it back up to scratch but im so happy to own this again. heres a picture of how it currently looks.

Well today iv been tidying the old dub up. borrowed the breadvans classics for temp wheels while i search for 13x6 bbs ra again. looks pretty good tbh. found a few holes underneath but nothing to serious.. mainly where people have jacked it up in the wrong place. hopefully can get it welded up soon and get it back on the road to enjoy for next year show season.

20161130_175904.pngLooks so much better with a set of wheels... but bloody cold ?

Shame the previous owner sold the RAs. You've probably still got the longer bolts to go with them though.

Sadly no, he kept the bolts as he knew of the issue with running the 13x6 :( im on the hunt for more but i have more concerns than the wheels for now.... the big rust hole in under the front chassis leg being the main one and 1 sill ? ah well keeps me busy in the cold

Been tidying the coupe up over last few days. need to do a bit of welding and get the engine rebuilt as can hear what i believe are the remains of a piston ring rattling round. fortunatly i dont have to use the car as its not on the road yet so can get it sorted and hope that no damage has been done as i have no idea how long it had been doing this.
