I have just brought polo gt coupe and the engine temperature light always flashes on and the gauge never moves I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on it would it just be a faulty sensor. Also if anyone knows of any exhaust systems for sale or good places to buy from that would be useful.

The coolant light would also come 'on' if the coolant level was low, so it might be worth checking that.

A quick check for the temperature gauge, is to (1) switch 'on' the ignition. (2) remove the lead from the temperature sender unit and earth it. (3) check the temperature gauge reading - If it now reads 'hot', then the sender is faulty.

If it still reads 'cold' then either the gauge itself is faulty, or there is a broken wire/connection.

As for the exhaust, I never care too much for the likes of 'quick-fit', you may even find that you get a better price from your local garage, but if you wish to fit it yourself, try ECP or a local motor factor.

Could also be a problem with the clocks if everything else is working fine

The GT and G40 have a connection on the expansion tank unlike other Polo models. Check this is connected, often if it is a conversion this part is forgotten.

Also check the connection to the black temp sender on the thermostat housing, this is the sender for the gauge on the clocks.

Thanks for the replies guys I will try this out tomorrow. It isn't a big problem at the moment as I know the car isn't over heating as the fan cuts in. Just want to know what temperature it's actually at. I will let you know what I find out.
