Hi All ,Put a new front nearside wheel bearing on the 6n2 and a Track Rod end while i was at,so i put 2 new tyres on the fronts and decided to get the tracking done,the guy doing the tracking was having trouble making adjustments and after 20 mins he finally gave up and told me that the tracking could not be done accurately and i needed 2 new tie rods and track rod ends at a cost to fit of £290,what i did notice was that the guy was working on the front nearside only,?is this correct and is it a good price to do the job.thanks for replying.

I'm not really sure what is going on here. The part of the job that can give problems, is finding that the TRE is seized to the track rod, but as you have already renewed the TRE, I am wondering just what the problem is?

In any case £290.00 is a extortionate amount of money.

I would suggest that you find somewhere else to do the job, preferably someone who is recommended by a friend and certainly NOT a quick fit type of outfit.

Had the same issue on a 6n after doing wheel bearings on both sides,

 

The issue with mine was the exposed thread of the tie rod was really aged and shit,

 

Had to replace both tie rods in the end, which is a simple enough job, but is an awkward one, took me about 3 hours to do it all, main issue is getting the old one off without the proper tool,

 

You could try getting under the car and giving them a really good wire brush and making sure the locking nut is free to move along the tie rod?
