Right I've found an eBay seller who deals specifically with gearbox bearings and parts etc. Use the link on the website I've just paid 125 notes for a full set for my box and they are branded bearings so not cheap shite. Here's a link http://gearboxpartsonline.com 

Yes, I have seen this site. As long as you get known bearing manufacturers you will be OK. There is some rubbish out there for the unwary. Is it cheaper for a bearing seal kit rather than buying them all individually? I am looking for some 8P parts if you have any?

I'm always a bit reluctant to buy from some of these people - you hear of too many Russian? copies, which look like the real thing, have the normal makers name and part number, but in fact are rubbish.

I'm not saying that the above site is one of these, but when you think of all the work that is involved in fitting most bearings, the cost of the actual bearings/seals/gaskets etc, becomes less significant.

I agree. I have had experience of poor quality bearings. I am getting my gearbox and seals by a genuine VAG supplier and the whole lot is £185 which I think is a price worth paying for piece of mind especially if the gearbox is for a performance engine.

Bring the old ones to a bearing specialist and they can match them. I have replaced all the bearings in a few different 085 boxes now and I paid no more then £50 for all the bearings. 

My local one is Kent bearings in ashford Kent.  They priced them up and they usually have cheaper ones and more expensive but aren't that much different in price. 

The common one that fails (middle shaft inner) is around £3.50 for  a better quality one. Diff bearings are around £7 each the others are more expensive because they are more specific but not much more then £10each .

The seals are the more expensive part. I usually get the outer cover seal from VW that's around £20 i think the diff oil seals are cheap on eBay but from VW they are something like £20 a side. 

Selector oil seal is cheap from ECP not much more from VW. 

Input shaft oil seal I have only been able to get from onestopgearboxshop or VW around £5 I think. 

Kent bearings sound like they are the buisness. I shall Google them. I have just paid £185 for all seals and bearings for a 085 from a TPS in East Sussex. The local BRT bearings just gave up even on the seals.

I have used other bearing places before all seem to offer the same service. I don't tend to tell them it's for a gearbox just bring them along and ask them if they have something to replace them it as they are looking I usually tend to say it's for a transmition. 

Dont ask them about the seals that will just confuse things :) I always get the seals from elsewhere. If you go to the ashford one there is a VW dealer literally around the corner and an ECP across from them so is worth a trip.
