Hi chaps

my brother has just a got a 1999 1.4cl a week back,its been fine apart from sometimes its abit funny to start,he just rang me saying when he turns the key the ignition lights come on,fuel pump primes but no battery light comes on,theres nothing when the key is turned,any ideas guys?
