Hi all. Hope you're rad. Had my mot yesterday and turns out one of the goodrich brake hoses i got a couple years ago had split. Been replaced with a regular hose. Just wondering if it's actually worth putting another goodrich back on or just leave it as standard hose. Running a stock '83 breadvan. Thanks for stopping by and any guidance/opinion anyone wants to share. 

Braided hoses do give a better feel to the pedal, so if you can I'd swop the standard rubber ones for braided ones

Is there much difference in actual performance between braided and stock? Can anyone recommend any particular hoses or even ones to avoid? 

Not sure it makes a difference, my car is the stock 1043cc. I don't rag it. No track action. Only thing close is motorway use and that isn't a regular thang. 

think most of the amazeballs race car comments are because folk replace 20 year old hoses and fluid and shock horror it feels better

 

ive gone off the braided ones as you cannot see them age until it bursts , with rubber ones you can see if theres any small cracks starting out

I just fitted 4 new pagid brake hose on my 91 gt along with new brake fluid and master cylinder and brake cylinders its made a world of difference. I am not saying you need to replace all that I have done but while you at it do all 4 rubber brake lines and rear cylinders and new fluid as its cheap enough..

A genuine single front flexy for a 6N from VW is £30+vat you can get a full set of Hel braided for £65 I know what I'd prefer !!

£5 each for febis....tbh pedal feels ok with stock stuff in good condition

 

not the brake hoses that let mk2 brakes down

I only run braided lines on my GT, all my other Polos run new Delphi or Febi items and in terms of performance there is nothing in it. Just the pedal in the GT feels more positive especially when there is some heat in the brakes.

Me personally unless you are planning on a bit of track work then just go for standard hoses and put the money you save towards decent pads.

Not aware of any issue with the other three goodrich lines i have. Will have my car off the ground enough to check them out next week when i do shocks and springs so i'll check then out then. If it turns out i need to replace all three around the same time, i'll look at my options when that happens. Thanks for your input dudes. Should give me plenty to go on between now and when i need to replace any of the others. 

I do like the idea of not spending out on shiny for the sake of it and throwing that money at something else. Glob knows there's always somethin cryin to have money thrown at it on my whip. 

trouble is you cant really check them for wear /age 

 

i had them on a golf once and a front one burst , i wont buy another set , dont think many sporty cars come with them either ...if rubbers good enough for flash cars its fine for a low power polo 

True that! I'm going off flashy stuff for flashy sake. Would much rather have something that functions well than something just because it looks good but doesn't work as well or costs way more.
