New to club polo but have been lurking for a while. 

 

Thought I'd make a build thread on my 1998 Polo 1.4 8v. I got this car for free today but I'm yet to receive any paperwork from the car as the guy left the V5 at his work. The car is on 91k miles and hasn't run in over a year, it's also had no MOT/Tax for the last two years either as it has been used as the blokes paddock car. 

 

Any who, here's a few pictures of the car as she sits currently, haven't given her a bath yet but that will happen tomorrow. 

 

 

I have a few plans for this car, the first of which will be to get her running and all road legal and then the modding can begin :) 

 

My goal is to have her ready for Early Edition next year and I'm thinking of doing a Japanese Kanjo racer style build on this 6n.

Yeah glad I saved this one, had a quick look over and it looked pretty good, will give it a good look over on the weekend. 

 

The guy I got it off was minted, had a Ferrari, range rover, a trio of pug 205 gti's, 106 rallye, dc2 integra and a corado vr6, safe to say the car was in good hands with its p.o 

 

Any suggestions on what oil to use on the engine and gearbox?

5W40 will be fine, if later you find it's using oil, you may be better with the 10W40.

 

Gearbox oil, use a quality 75W90 Synthetic transmission oil.

On models up to Oct 95 the filler plug is located on the left hand sie of the transmission housing, next to the driveshaft. For easier access turn steering wheel on full left lock.

 

On models built after Oct 95 the filler plug is on the front of the transmission housing, and can be accessed from above, or below if you have it jacked up on 4 level stands or a lift.

 

Quantity - 3.1 litres on models after Oct '95 and 2.7 litres on models pre Oct '95: Use SAE 75W/90

 

So what you want to do is drain your oil. Then use a 17mm hex adapter on a wrench to open the filler plug (or a very large allen key). The plug will likely to be tight. Then fill it back up until it begins to run back out of the filler hole (ensure your car is perfectly level for best results).

 

Also if your entirely replacing the oil it might be worth refilling it until it's level with the filler plug and begins to trickle out... then take it for short drive to distribute the oil around the transmission components. Let it settle for 10mins when you get back and check the level again.

Plans are to get it roadworthy first, then do the valver bumpers, smooth bumpstrips, coilovers, alloys, stripped track spec interior, decat exhaust blahblahblah haha. 

 

Clubs already friendlier than the mk3 scene haha.

Quick update, no mods yet, still awaiting the V5 :( 

 

Gave Rolo a quick clean today (in the rain aha!) And there was so much muck and grime on the car as it hadn't been washed for about 3 years. 

 

Cleans up rather nicely, the drivers door is a bit tatty with some rust at the bottom, the rest of the car has a few small rust spots but it's just surface rust and nothing serious. Funnily enough, with out the rust, the paint on this Polo would be cleaner than the paint on my 33k mile MK3 Golf ??

Off to Santa Pod this weekend for some Drag Racing so work on the Polo will be stalled, but luckily I have two weeks of work so I'm gonna start doing some basic stuff to it like a debadge and a dewipered also might smooth the bumpstrips as well. 

 

 

Long time no update. 

 

Last weekend managed to get the car running, cleaned the spark plugs and put in a new battery and Rolo started up first try

 

Still waiting for that logbook though and the previous owner is ignoring all my calls and Facebook messages :(

This happened to me when i bought my daughter polo breadvan. The previous owner was being a dick and ignoring my txts and calls so i contacted DVLA and they told me which form to fill in and as i was the new registered owner the new log book did not cost me any money
