Hey guys, been searching for a while to see if anyone has successfully converted a mk2f polo rear drums to 6n2 gti disc's 

i bought a set dirt cheap

i converted a rear drum setup before on my 6n2 but I just need to know can it be done to a coupe before I buy new disc's, pads, dust plates and handbrake cables

any help would be awesome

I converted min to run mk2 Golf rear discs with mk4 Golf calipers. The 6n2 is a slightly different design as the bearing is part of the sub axle I think instead of being in the disc? I don't know if this makes fitting of the stub axle any different. But if that bolts on fine to the rear beam then there is no reason I can see why to rest won't fit. 

As for the cables if the calipers are the same as mk2 or mk4 Golf then you can buy an adaptor on eBay to use the existing cables. I believe they are sold to convert a mk1 Caddy to rear discs.

Both patterns are the same. I haven't actually fit the discs, but I have just fit 200mm drums from a 6n2 and logic tells me if the 6n/2 drums fit on the mk2 and the Disc brakes fit the 6n it MUST fit the mk2 :) 

the ABS sensor does get in the way. Have a go at removing them in one piece, if you succeed then frame the sensor and send a picture to VW and they will send you a cheque and a certificate of winning at VWstuff because it's almost impossible :) lol

I just smashed them off and used a belt sander to smooth it flat. 

Other thing to maybe do is remove the ABS ring on the hub. It can foul and make an annoying noise. 

 

I was just about to ask about the handbrake cables as that was what made me go with the drums instead. 

 

Any chance of of a link to these adaptors? 

Becoming impossible to find these for sale. Dunno if demand for them has completely gone or what.

Might ht be a dumb question, but where do these go? From looking at the pic I'd say on the end of the cable against the calipers bracket and you use the big metal clip bit to hold it in place? 

On the bottom of the calipers you'll see a hole where the cable is supposed to go through and seat when the proper Golf handbrake cable is used. These adapters sit in that hole and act as a spacer & reducer for the drum brake cable, so it seats and sits further away to account for the extra length on the cable. The ones I have are a tight fit in the caliper and the tension on the cable helps hold them in place.

Makes sense to me. 

I have ordered a pair, they have free delivery from the website which is nice. 

 

Another question, and It might be a stupid one, but how is it adjusted? Is there an adjustment at the handle? I know there are connections under the car but not sure if they adjust from there. 

 

Got me all excited now, I really thought I wasn't going to be able to fit them :) 

I used mk2 golf  stub axle , mk2/3 carrier and mk4 caliper, to adjust the caliper i used passat b5.5 break line.

You cant use mk4 caliper with 13" wheels

Not strictly true, you can you just need to space the wheels out. When I'm running RAs I have a 20mm spacer and it is more than enough to allow clearance for the caliper. I also run 13" BBS Mahles on the road and use a 15mm spacer with them. Still gives plenty clearance. The only thing you need to watch for it where the balance weights are stuck on the wheels.

My wheel were et25 and 16mm spacers and still rub. Because of that i wipe some of the metal, you can see it on pictures.
