Mk1 Steering parts

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I know this is bad form, I am crashing your forum looking for support on my beetle project.

I have a steering rack which I think is mk1 polo.  The type that has only has one arm coming out of the rack.

It looks perfect for a rack conversion on my 74 1200 bug.  40 year old steering boxes are lame.

I wonder if anyone is breaking a car which could help me avoid making lots of parts myself.

I'd like the bracket that goes on the output end of the rack and connects to the two balljoints.  I don't know what it's called.  If it has balljoints still in it with track rods on them, even better.

I'd also like the coupling that connects the end of the column to the rack.  That would really help.  Does it have a cardan shaft on it with universal joints?

Rack mounting brackets would also be nice.

Does anyone have a picture I could see from the haynes book or something?  I'd like to see what the parts should look like.

Thanks for reading.

regards,

jon.
