polo 9n passenger door not opening

So i've just bought a 9n and minutes before I turned up the passenger door mechanism somehow buggered itself and now wont open. 

tried opening it off the key, button and form inside to no prevail, also tried stuff such as holding it open and locking/unlocking the car. 

What would be the best way to get the door open as i cant hear the motor working when the central locking is activated on the passenger door, all I hear is a 'ping' noise from under the car, not sure if thats related at all. The drivers side is fine but I cannot open the passenger door, so im guessing the mech is fried maybe? I know its a common thing to happen, would it be a case of getting it open and replacing the mechanism if i can get it open that is?
