Featured Replies

Model: Polo GT coupe

Engine: 3F 1.3 GT

Suspension: Standard

Brakes: Standard

Wheels and Tyres: 13" Factory steel wheels with Wheel Trims on TOYO tyres

Exterior Styling: Completely standard

Interior Styling: Standard Interior

ICE and Security: None, however I do have a "This car has an alarm" sticker. Just as good as a immobiser in my book.

Comments: The last couple of years I have been looking to own another GT for a bit of running about pleasure on my days off etc. Missing out on a few purchased because the car hasn't been right and more often me being a bit too tight. Few months ago I came across a 1991 Polo GT located near torquey which is around 500 miles from me. It had a pretty good story behind it with only really one owner since new along with full history and completely original!! I HAD TO HAVE IT!

I went down there to find a lovely little edition and as discribed in pretty good nick. Looking back at previous MOTs's and servicing the car only done 5000 approx over the last 12 years and only 50 miles done last year. This wee car drove the 500 miles 10 and a half hours without skipping a beat. This car has had the work done By the previous keeper; New brakes all round, major service inc timing belt recently, new fuel tank, fuel lines, break lines along with pretty much new links and bushes all round.

My plan for this car which is only at 103000 miles is to simply maintain and keep as original as I can. Possibly find bbs alloys, rear smoked lights etc. It does have a few cosmetic problems that need addressed, few trolley dings and a bit of a dent on the o/s wing and it does need a scuttle panel repair as there is a bit of rust coming through. All in all am delighted with it and it drives like a wee dream.

Any suggestions that you may have for me as I'll be happy to hear them.

Hi Folks, not the biggest user of the forums or social media either but just thought i would update my Topic since i have had my GT Coupe for over 2 years now.

I have just had to put this little gem through its second MOT since i have had it and i think its 24th overall MOT. I recently bought my first property so its not been getting the attention it deserves recently.

It has been garaged for most of the last year with me only managing 500 miles between MOT's, i was a little concerned about the test. After changing the Top Strut Mounts it more or less got a clean bill of health.

As far as up-keep or modifications goes since my ownership i have been pretty lucky that I have only had to spend money on cosmetics. Just a couple bits of trims and refreshing  parts here and there to bring it back to life. I have bought 15" BBS alloys which i have put on along with 4 new Toyo proxy's, i really wanted the 13" ones but i could not find them for love nor money.

Engine, Suspension, chassis and interior is still absolute spot on which i am delighted about but there is one or two bits of the exterior bodywork i am wanting to get addressed.

I managed to get out all the carpark trolley dings and dents but If i am being critical....there is a few chips which has turned into rust spots. Only noticeable if your right up close.

One part which breaks my heart is the rust at the bottom of the windscreen (Common Seemingly)....i cover it with a bit of tape to prevent any more exposure but i need to get it sorted properly.

I am fortunate enough to work for Volkswagen but i have been told to fix it the window has to come out which would  likely break the windscreen and i cant bring myself to do it as it has the original screen in it with reg number and all.

I am looking for a bit of advice from the experts on here if possible.....?

1. Thoughts on the wheels? (Pic Attached) To the untrained eye they look good but i know there too big and not factory and i really don't want to lower the car.

2. I may be thinking about selling the my Polo GT.....is there still a market for them?, if so any thoughts on price?....I couldn't sell it to someone who would play about with it and mess it up. (I.e me when i was 17 who lowered my first GT,  rallied it everywhere along with cutting it to bits putting speakers in it)......Live and learn!!!

Any comments, suggestions or feedback would be welcomed good or bad as at the moment i drive it a few miles...clean it....Garage it....repeat.

Thanks again

Greg
