Fuel flap stuck

My fuel flap on 2006 polo won't open...I've opened up the area behind the flap in the boot and found a white rod. I've tried pulling/pushing it, but the flap stays shut.

Any ideas gratefully received :)

    There should be a manual release behind the trim as the rod works with a solenoid motor. Try cycling the central locking and double check the fuse (not sure if it's part of the CL or not).
