Mk2 AFH bike carbs

First things first, this isnt a car you can drive home.

It hasn't had an MOT for a few years.

 

I have owned it for over 6 years and for 4 of those years it was my absolute pride and joy. I maintained it meticulously, changed parts before they broke, and generally just adored the damn thing...

then I had to grow up and buy a house, so hence i had nowhere to keep it and nowhere dry to work on it.

add that to the fact that the house i bought was a dooer-upper... and you see why two years down the line i've not hardly had a minute to spare to get the car sorted, and lost a bit of interest really.

so there she has been sat patiently round the back of the house just waiting for me to start finishing off, but now the time comes i think its time to pass on the baton.

 

So details...

 

originally the car was a 1.3 coupe s

Eventually the engine packed in, so was replaced with a 1.4 AFH engine from a 1998 Polo 6n.

it runs on CBR600 bike carbs

reconditioned gearbox from 1.3MH engine

front brake disks and calipers upgraded to VWII (from golf GTI)

brand new brake lines throughout

brand new braided flexi-hoses

brand new stainless steel exhaust manifold and downpipe

brand new exhaust to rear

new ignition coil

brand new battery

the aluminium engine head has been die-grinder ported and polished 

it has been fully rebuilt with all new seals, new head gasket, valves have been hand-lapped.

new valve seals

custom fabricated surface ground mild steel inlet manifold, also ported and polished

cbr600 bike carbs, fully stripped and cleaned, new fuel jets

ARB blocks fitted 

rear coilovers fitted

set of nice alloy wheels included

 

ok so bear in mind, this work was completed 2 years ago, and since then the car has been kept outside my house not being worked on. 

I have been careful to start the car and run it for a couple minutes every now and then.

I have taken a look underneath it, and the braided flexi's and the new brake lines look like they were installed yesterday.

 

The bodywork i would sa is good, but not excellent. 

There are no dints or 'dinks' or anything requiring major work,

the worst part is a patch of rust near where the rear exhaust exits the car

other than that there is just an odd bit of rust here and there, and to say it's been neglected for 2 years, i expected a lot worse!!!

 

PROJECT DETAILS... (work needing to be done)

The car runs, but will run better with the following:

carbs will need stripping and cleaning out (not a massive job, plenty of guides available online)

once fit again carbs may need balancing, i will be including my carb balancer in with the sale

fuel lines to carb probabaly need replacing (about a year ago i started the car and it pissed petrol everywhere, i did a quick replacement just to get it running again)

brake lines feel like they need re-bleeding

exhaust at back will need a couple of rubber 0-rings (couple quid each)

with the brakes bled up, i don't even see why this would fail an MOT as it stands.

still registered as a 1272cc

 

once its finished you will have a 120+bhp classic car that weighs less than a ton.
