Hi I received my fog light kit in the mail today. I am unsure though how to wire it up with this particular loom. I tried wiring it up the way I thought it would work but when I touched the small blue and black wires together I didn't hear any click of the relay. If I could get some help it  would be much appreciated. Below is how I have it wired currently.

 

EDIT: just realized I need power connected to pins 85 and 86 instead of just touching them together oops.

 

Wiring loom containing 1 relay and 2 fuses(5A)(40A).

Standard relay connections are

30 supply in

85 Ground

86 Switched supply

87 Switched output to light/pump/horn

 

The OEM wiring doesn't use a relay, the power to the fogs is direct from the main headlight switch

If I were to wire the positive leads from the fogs directly to pin 8 without any relay. Would that be the correct OEM way of doing it?

 

This is the small black and blue wires that go to the switch in the loom. The blue has the crimped end that clicks into pin 8.

The OEM wiring :- from pin 8 of light switch, to fuse# 44 (15amp) from fuse it splits, one goes to pin 19 of the Blue connector on the speedo unit, the other goes through the bulkhead disconnect 6 pin connector, and then onto both fog lights All of this wiring should be already installed

The thing is though wouldn't that require taking out the dash to get at the bulk head. I would prefer not to take out the dash if possible. I know wiring it with the relay and direct connection to the battery isn't the standard way of doing it but would it cause any problems in the long because taking out the dash would take a fair bit of time.

Have you checked behind the bumper for the fog light connectors ?  as I said this wiring is normally all there, so all you have to do is change the main light switch, plug the fog lights in and put a fuse in, no need to remove the dash or anything

My polo is a lower spec so it didn't have the wires there. That would have made it a whole lot easier. I have it mostly done now. All I have left to do now is join the wire to the switch tommorow. I ended up going through the rear washer pipe to get into the cabin. I might make a little guide for the fog light kit I got. Thanks for the help.
