This is my first ever build thread, I have read many of these but never bothered taking pics and documenting anything I did on cars before.

So, I have owned a  1 owner from new 1994 mk2f boulevard  coupe for almost 2 years which is in almost factory condition and to say it makes me smile every minute I'm behind the wheel is an understatement. I have wanted to do things to the car but have held off because I don't want to ruin and otherwise super nice car.

SO... I did the sensible thing and bought another one to screw around on and since the day it arrived I have not stopped working on it.

I bought the car from a salvage auction and won it for the opening bid which was an absolute bargain. It had almost 10 month mot and seemed to be well looked after. It had been broken into at some point and the steering column was damaged as usual :(

this is what it looked like at 9:30am when it arrived on a recovery truck and I threw a bucket of water over it.

its a 1993 1.0 breadvan boulevard 4 speed with a colossal (not really) 105k on the clock.

Not a bad little car really and could have been kept as it is, but I had big plans for it..

The paint wasn't fantastic (wasn't BAD either) so I had always planned on painting it. It became aparent to me that the work involved was more then I wanted to put it at the time so I put it to the back of my mind.

After washing it I gave it good clean inside and was wiping the inside of the windscreen a little hard and the windscreen came out... This immediately made me deme tent that I was going to paint it, so off to B&Q I went :).

Even before I bought this car I was inspired by this 6n I saw. 87217230e9bf669da4fa8f1b9e76e197_zps6d9s

so I already knew what I was going to do. I got a mixed 2.5 litre tin of paint in a satin finish and some foam rollers and brushes etc and raced back home.

I stripped the windows out of it as well as the door, wings bonnet and bumpers etc and got to work.

yes, it may have been over kill for a roller paint job, but I figured if it's going to be a shit paint job I might as well make it a proper shit paint job :)

oh yeah I also dropped the engine out.

Not bad for a day's work I think :) I did take more pictures of the following work but the memory card in my phone decided it wanted to become corrupt so they have gone :(

the engine that's on the pallet under the front  if you look closely at the pictures as an APQ hat I had laying around. I was planning on running the MPI system from the 6n and I even had all the loom already cut to size etc but I didn't have an ECU and immobiliser etc.

At this point I had quite a few bits for sale from a 6n2 GTI that I broke including a complete engine conversion which surprising no one wanted, so I figured screw it I'm sticking that bastard in.

I had a nice FFW gearbox which was very recently reconditioned also for sale at a ridiculously low price with no interest at all, so o stuck that onto the engine with a new LUK clutch.

Fitting the engine was fun because my nice shiny electric hoist that was bolted to a ceiling beam for years decided to not work now when I needed it :( so I had to do it hill bills style by lifting it by hand into the bay. I'm no body duilder but I can lift more then my weight :) so I got it under the car and used an old seat belt through the lifting eyes and stood in the engine bay with a foot on each chassis leg and lifted the engine up and had a friend feed in the bolts.

Sense of accomplishment was sky high at this point.

The engine bay was painted black (with a brush of course because hillbilly) before the engine went in. I bought an arch roller a few days before so figured why not and rolled the front arches completely flat and give them a bit of a flare too. I filled and smoothed the aerial hole because someone had snapped the aerial and messed up the hole. It will be replaced with the roof aerial from the 6n2 when I find it.

I cut off the bumpers lower grille fins and semi smoothed the remains. I used shiny stainless mess grille to replace it.

i also went overboard on the brakes, because I figured with all the extra go I need some extra stop so to the breakers I went and came back with some low mileage 200mm drums for the rear and some FS 2 (same as VW2) calipers. I had the master cylinder from the 6n2 which is 22mm and replaced the standard 19mm leaking one. It had only 2 outlets, so figured it's a great time to make all new copper brake lines. I use 2 T pieces to split each outlet diagonally over the axles. I think this would be adequate for a light car :)

i alao did a good amount of electrical work to the inside including central lock with a modern touch of a remote control (wow) and a push button start that works with the 6n2 immobiliser which even confused me so I'm sure any potential thief would be baffled :)

I also had some fondmetal lightweight 15"x7 alloys for sale, again with no interest so guess what they ended up on this. I went for a slight stretch  on the tyres with 175/50 on the front and 175/55 on the back. I originally went for 155/55 for the front but they couldn't get them on  which is best because that would have been stupid. They sit quite nicely and are actually lighter then the steels which to me is a worth while mod.

Where im at now:

car is fully painted and Windows, doors, wings and bumpers are back on. Engine fully fitted minus exhaust. Wiring is 90% finished and ECU and immobiliser are talking to vagcom so I'm ready to start the engine.

Brakes need to be fitted fully and bled. Exhaust needs to be welded (6n2 downpipe to mk2 cat)

bodywork needs to be fully bolted on and I need to source a windscreen (broke it) and I need to repair the drivers drive shaft as the ball bearings fell out.

Im sure I have forgot a few things but the pics will follow and I'm sure I will remember what I have done.

Its funny, I have done all this and haven't even got the logbook yet, it's been almost 3 weeks so far and 4 days of that I was abroad

thanks for looking, it will be updated daily so check back
