Saw this advertised locally last Tuesday, rang up and it had been sold. Then upon trawling Gumtree last Friday I noticed it had reappeared. Not too sure of the background but the bloke I bought it from was a colleague of the bloke who was originally selling it!

 

Anyway, here she is - 1.0 4 speed Fox with 65k on her and completely original. Lots of history, a few dents (mostly on wings and bonnet), faded paint and a lot of character! I haven't investigated yet but i'm told it has a Weber carb fitted - presumably it's the 32TLA autochoke model.

I've started to T-Cut the roof, and it's looking a lot more red now (it was almost white before),  first job will be to get her looking as red as I can. I have a few bits and bobs at from my Saloon which i'm selling to my brother so I will be fitting these in due course:

 

• Rev counter clocks
• Coupe S steering wheel
• Double headlamp grille
• Uprated headlamp loom + Osram Night Breaker Unlimited bulbs
• MK2 alloy rocker cover

 

I'll give her an oil/fuel/air filter change plus fresh oil when I get a chance too. 

 

I also have a 4 branch & straight through centre pipe that I am contemplating on fitting - possibly coupled to a G40 rear section to retain the OEM look.

Started her last night after being sat for approx 24 hours - she started on the key with no throttle, idled pretty low with the battery light on and died after about 15 seconds. I was waiting to see when the revs would pick up but they didn't. She then refused to start and the battery died after about 30 seconds of cranking on and off. 

 

The service history implies that the battery was last replaced in 2007(!), that coupled with a rather cold Sunday night (it was 2 degrees at 7am here on Monday morning so presumably colder during the Sunday night) leads me to think the battery needs replacing. 

Rightio then, i've had a good week with the Polo. Got her working again on Wednesday night by keeping my foot on the gas for about half a minute whilst cranking and she started - I can only presume there was a blockage in the carb? The battery is charging at 13.8/9V so all well on that front (not bad for 9 year old battery!)

 

Carried out a few changes this weekend just gone.

 

The drivers door had a different key to the rest of the car so I swapped the passenger side barrel over and put a mk2 golf rear handle on to 'delock' the passenger side:

Fitted rev counter clocks and swapped speedo over to retain original mileage (also hit a 66k milestone last night too!)

 

 

I gave her a quick wash and T-cut yesterday as the paint is pretty damn faded - especially on the roof. T-cutting made it even more faded - so I am confident that the roof paint is officially goosed!

Looks to be quite a nice little car. Try some Farecla No3 before you give up on the roof. It has a bit more 'bite' than Tcut. Doesn't smell of ammonia either. Use with a damp cloth. Works a treat. Also have had exactly the same carb problem with the white Polo. That's got a Weber 32 tla carb too. If it doesn't start straight away, the bloody thing floods. Slip the top cover off the air cleaner and wedge the choke flap open and the crank on full throttle until it splutters into life. Having a spare battery and jumper leads helps as the batteries on Mk2s are a bit wimpy.
