Newbie help please !!

I have just purchased a 2009 Polo 1.4TDI but I have noticed that the interior light stays on all of the time and will not dim.

My dad thinks its the overhead light unit dimming function might of had burnt out ?? Anyone else had the same problem  :-/

 

Also not sure if its related but the car has the Cobra alarm fob hanging off the key. You can press the fob buttons and it opens and closes the doors but is it supposed to flash the indicators as well ??

My mums Seat Toledo flashes when the alarm is activated yet my dads Audi A4 does not and only illuminates the interior light !!  I'm confused !!

The dimming/control of the interior light is controlled by the Onboard supply control unit,  but as it seems your car has an aftermarket alarm system installed it is possible they have altered the wiring to get the alarm system to work so without knowing what they have done to the wiring, it's difficult to give a definite answer :(

It's under the dash by the steering column
