VW Polo Estate 6K5 (Variant) E 2001 SDI 1.9 Diesel
Low-Mileage - Long
MOT

I have owned this Polo Estate for nearly 8 years – and it has provided fantastic service, and been an absolute delight to drive and own. It has been very reliable – very economical on Diesel – the Road Tax is cheap – and being an SDI it is cheap to insure [I was even able to add my young daughter to the insurance at modest cost when she had passed her test, until she got her own car]. If you haven’t driven an SDI (non-turbo Diesel) I think you will be very pleasantly surprised by how well it performs.

Asking price ???? a mere £750 !!!

It has been driven with respect – has been well maintained/serviced/repaired – has done a low-mileage for its age (less than 7000 miles per year) – and so is in brilliant mechanical condition – should provide many years of easy motoring – these Diesel engines seem to go on forever.

Its appearance has been enhanced by the addition of a very tidy set of alloy wheels. These are in fact the type of wheel that would have been fitted, if it had left the factory as a SEAT Cordoba Vario (the “Spanish sister car” to the Polo Estate) but have got VW badges fitted over the SEAT centre caps.
In general its appearance is pretty good – but is let down by a few paint defects – which could be easily rectified, especially as I intend to include 2 very useful spares if it sells at asking price**.
The most obvious defect is that it has suffered some peeling of the lacquer layer, but only at the front end. The bonnet has lost approx 90% of its lacquer – and there is also some loss on the front left wing, the front bumper, and the left wing-mirror cover. [** I will include a bonnet in excellent condition – unfortunately its Tornado Red, and the car is Flash Red ( LP3G ) – close but not right – but easier to re-spray than the peeled bonnet.]
The tailgate window is “glued-in” and the very edges of the metalwork immediately above and below it have some rust spots along them. This is a very common problem on Polo Estates. [**I will include a near perfect spare tailgate – which is the correct Flash Red – so ready to bolt-on and fully solve this problem.]
Other than on the Tailgate – I can only think of 1 other rust spot detracting from the appearance – there is a rust scab at the very bottom end of the right rear wheel-arch, just above where it joins the sill.
It is a 15 year old car – so obviously it also has a few stone chips, car-park scrapes on bumpers, and the usual “age-related marks” – but thanks to low mileage, there aren’t too many.
If you are handy with a spray-gun – or know someone who is – you could very easily/quickly have this car looking top-notch – which is what it deserves. On the other hand if you are after a cheap but reliable “work-horse” just drive it “as it is” – after all , you can’t see the defects whilst you are driving – but you will enjoy driving it, and it will probably provide you with your cheapest ever motoring.

The defects are not very obvious in my photos – which do show you that overall it looks pretty good – if you want to see more detail, message-me and I can email you some extra close ups of the problem areas.

The interior is in very tidy condition. It DOES NOT suffer from rips/tears – nor any cigarette burns nor bolster wear. The carpets have been protected by over-mats (probably not included) so are great. I have given it a modest clean-out – but a proper valet would have it looking almost new.
The luggage cover “blind” is in good condition – and full working order.

Comes with 2 “full keys” (with immobiliser chips) plus a 3rd emergency key (no chip – just opens doors).
There is the original “posh” VW “vehicle wallet” containing the various sections of the user manual. As far as I can see it’s almost complete – possibly only missing the Beta Radio section – but it DOES have the Radio Code card – and also the Service Schedule, which has the early service actions stamped up to 2006 by the VW Dealers – Arnold Clark.

Servicing + Repairs. All servicing since the early years, and repairs, have been carried out using the best possible materials – with the intention of achieving long term reliability.
Oil changes are done “on mileage” using high-quality fully synthetic oil and Genuine VW filters – most recent at 101992 miles (June 2016).
Cambelt was last changed at 95211 miles (Apr 2015) using a Genuine VW set of tensioners and idlers, with Contitech uprated belt (Auxiliary belt also done) and an SKF Water Pump.
New Rear Wheel Bearing Hub Units were fitted at 99030 miles (Feb 2016)
Front Brake Pads last changed at 86675 miles  (Apr 2014) using Genuine VW pad set – the previous set having easily done 45000+ miles (first set did 41000).

Complete exhaust system was replaced at 78085 miles (May 2013) using Genuine VW Catalytic Converter, Centre Box and all Clamps (stainless sleeves). The Rear Box, hangers and Manifold Gasket were all Bosal parts.

New Front Springs (Sachs) with top-mounts and top-bearings (an SKF kit) were fitted at 73073 miles (July 2012).

I have a more detailed list – and many invoices – to give to the new owner – but apart from the above its pretty trivial stuff.

The MOT runs to 21 Sept 2017 - I will include the certificate, and the previous 9 MOT certificates – which will show the steady mileage build-up.
They will also show NO failures – and very few Advisories – Sept 2013: tyre near limit, brake pads thin (done – see above) – Sept 2016: brake pipe on right rear trailing arm slightly corroded (immediately replaced).

GOOD Points of this car

Great to drive – and very reliable.

Cheap to run – brilliant Diesel fuel economy.

Cheap Road tax - £130 per year – thanks to being ’51 Reg.

Cheap to insure – thanks to being an SDI.

Low Mileage – well under 105000 total – less than 7000 per year.

Long MOT – expires 21 Sept 2017.

Maintained to a high standard – using mainly Genuine VW – or high-quality German OEM parts.
Great interior.

One owner for last (nearly) 8 years.

VAG group alloy wheels.

Cambelt changed less than 10000 miles ago – not due for a long time.

2+ Keys.

BAD Points of this car

It is 15 years old (offset by low-mileage).

Peeling lacquer problem at front end (offset by spare bonnet).

Rust spots round tailgate window (offset by spare tailgate).

Currently on SORN – had to do that as I transferred the insurance policy to another car.

I have provided quite a few photos so you can get a good impression of what is on offer – but if you want any specific detailed photos – just ask.

I have a number of accessories/spares for this car. As already mentioned – if it sells at asking price I will include a spare bonnet and tailgate – both in great condition.
The rest are NOT included in my asking price – as I firmly believe most buyers want to buy at the lowest possible price – and don’t want to be paying for things not relevant to them.
However – depending on what you want to use this car for – and how long you expect to keep it – you may want to make me offers on some/any of the following items – Dog Guard (Genuine VW) – Rigid Boot Liner (Genuine VW) – Thule Lockable Roof Bars (custom fit – as sold by VW dealers) – Flash Red touch up spray set (Genuine VW - still in sealed wrapper) – spare Rear Silencer (Bosal).
If you don’t like the alloy wheels – or if you want to run a set of “winter tyres” – I still have the original steel wheels – or if you really like the alloys, I even have a spare set of them.
Whatever you don’t need – I am happy to advertise them on Club Polo – or list them on eBay – after the car is sold.

I live about 7 miles south of Salisbury (Wiltshire – close to Hampshire border) – so very easy access from Salisbury, Southampton, Ringwood/Bournemouth – but also not at all far from Warminster, Winchester, Dorchester, Basingstoke, Portsmouth, etc – so come and take a look.

If you are interested – send me a PM including your phone number and/or email address – and we can get a visit set-up.
