Bought home my new polo project today. Started life in Ireland and was imported over in 1998, so had no other choice but to name him Paddy 

 

Came with loads of parts and spares also a huge to do list but will hopefully be well worth it in the end. No doubt i will be living on here for help and advice too

Not sure haha. Is covered in laquer peel but hopefully i can rescue the paint

Thanks! Its hopefully going to end up a smooth bay so should look ace when its finished haha

I couldn't resist for the price haha. Can't wait to get stuck in with it. Will try and upload as much progress as i can 

Managed to replace the fuel tank and realise why it came with a spare, the filler neck was rotten  back brakes have also been stripped down ready for new parts.

 

Managed to swap the genuine mileage from the standard clocks to the Gt clocks and found a set of mk2 golf seats for £1 on ebay!!  

 

Just waiting on some nice weather and to get rid of the annual winter man flu to get the rear axle off for refurb. Any help on where to put the axle stands? 

Also any tips on uploading photos? The 2mb limit seems very small?

the golf seats fit but sit alittle high. when you fild them forward they hit the screen

 

might be better to sell them on and get scirocco coraddo gt or g40 ones

Its only going to be a weekend car. Ill be surprised if it ever has more than 2 people in haha. Will test fit them when i get close to doing interior and if they are too high ill look for others.

Id love you go big to make it a huge sleeper but its dependant on budget. I like the thought of a 1.8 20v turbo. Its on pretty much every panel. May just roller it a retro matte colour

Got the rear beam off today and started rubbing it down for new bushes and ready for the new brakes, also ordered a h&r 60/40 kit to get it sitting nice when its back down on the ground  does anybody have any experience with this kit? Hoping for a not too 'crashy' ride haha.

Progress made already. Awesome

Axle has now been rust treated which left it looking a bit nasty so started giving it a coat of primer to spray it black and rather took to how it looked with the primer so leaving it as it is haha. Anybody know if it will need lacquering or if it will be okay with the primer alone?

primer isnt water resistant so will need propper paint and laquer to protect it.

 

its life is spent getting wet, gritty, muddy, hit by stones and used for jacking 

 

you only want to do this job once so go for overkill

I've used new standard bushes as I've heard the rear poly ones are only really needed for track use?

I've read that about the bushes too but was after i had ordered them. It won't get used all that much to be honest as it'll be a second car and planning to track it a few times so will see how i get on with it 

 

i have the poly ones on mine aswell as upfront and it doesnt bother me.

That's good to hear! Im planning on polybushing front too but gotta get the back end sorted and put back on first haha
