If you can't get the adaption to run, sometimes you can get the ECU to learn the throttle positions by going for a 30 min drive and with varying loads on the throttle including a few, flat to the floor with the pedal

i'm willing to try anything but i can't even get the car to start without my foot on the accelerator a bit, and as soon as i take my foot off the engine dies because the plate idle position just isn't allowing enough air in. I doubt i could really take it for a drive unless the ecu corrected this issue quickly.  i could probably achieve the same result by putting the front of the car up on axle stands and just taking it through the gears though right?

You really need to drive it to put a load on the engine so the ECU can re-learn the trottle positions to the MAP sensor inputs
