Does anyone know if in VWs ultimate wisdom, that they made Mk2 diesel engine blocks such as MN or 1W codes in a different cast iron such as a heat treated SG iron or a "weathered" normal cast iron to take the higher compression ratio and the knock? Also did they add additional material to critical areas to take the higher loadings on the bearing webs for example?
