Hey guys, 

this is long over due. So I use to own a Polo 6r 1.2 Moda - wasn't a bad first car was pretty slow but loved the feel of the car. 

 

So recently I made the plunge and after reading hundreds of threads on here and other forums I went and bought a 6R GTI 

this is it, woke up early on Thursday the 9th of March. Went to work for a couple of hours decided I couldn't wait till the weekend to make the trip up to white city to go and buy it, with some deliberation and negotiating with my boss he let me go at 10:30am  WHAT A RESULT. 

Sooo I began my journey from Brighton at 11:45 to Victoria - I then got two tubes and an Über. Took me 3 and a half hours to get there, the sun was shining and everything was good. Then disaster. 

 

Apparently as im 19 they wouldn't let me buy the car without someone accompanying me who was 21!!! What kind of crap is that??

 

I argued for for what seemed like an age and they eventually took me for a test drive in which I sat shotgun  anyways I loved it from first sight so all the test drive did was make my decision even easier. 

 

I bought the little polo and drove 4 hours through London back to Brighton. Long story short I loved the car and everything About it. 

 

So I'm only 19 and I'm not sure what my insurance will be like about mods and stuff but so far all I've done is stick on this cool phone holder. 

 

Move also got these cool flappy paddle extensions I got off eBay - aluminium and massive I love them make gear changes so much more fun. 

 

I would love to go to some shows with it and some meets if any of your guys are from down south let me know.

Welcome aboard and well done on the purchase! Very strange about the age recruitment for buying the car, never heard of that before. I'd be careful with mods at such a young age, having a GTi alone I'm sure if expensive enough. The insures will try to price you out with any mods or just flat out refuse to cover you. I'd recommend getting a few years driving under your belt, get the prices down and once you're 21 then look at some specialised car insurance companies like the sponsors we have.

Yeah I thought it was abit random, I think at first it was because they thought I was just a tyre kicker. 

 

Would you say a centre section delete should be something you declare or would it be too risky not to?

Any modification that isn't OEM and is a change from the spec that left the show room will be classed as a modification. Always double check with your insurer, they might allow some changes. Anything that is power/engine related is a performance mod, so changing the stock exhaust will come under that (as is, the centre section and even a pod filter/induction kit).

I understand that you may want a loud exhaust or just a nice tone, but I don't think removing the centre section is really worth your time, you will end up drawing more attention to yourself. If you happen to get pulled by the police, (even worse a traffic officer) they will double check any mods they see that are not standard and ring your insurer.

Any mods not declared (which it will state in the T&C's) will make your insurance void. They wouldn't pay out and if you crash and the worse happens you could end up in pretty big trouble.

Remember insurance companies are there to help and advise, speak to them with some mods you're thinking about BUT WILL NOT FIT and see what they say! :)
