AFH sump hitting stage 2 subframe

Hello everyone wow this forum has grown! so much has changed and will take some getting used to haha.

I have finally got myself motivated to finish my bready project and yesterday i attempted to fit my AFH lump into the bready, the sump is currently sitting on the subframe!

After some research there are some options, fit an earlier sump&pickup or take the sump off, cut down the pickup a few cm's and take a section out of the sump......

Now my questions are....is there a way to tell if my AFH engine is the early or late model? as i cant remember, and my next question is if i modify my sump will it affect anything else? compression change perhaps? 

Hopefully when my project is finished i can get back into this forum to see all the new build threads!
