What Mk is My Polo

Why does ClubPolo differ to Volkswagen when it comes to polo MK numbers?
We think it all stems back from when Club Polo was first born, around the time the 6n was still available new. At which point everyone referred to the 6n as a mk4 and it has carried on from there. It is only in recent years that some confusion has started for whatever reason. I think if we renamed everything we would confuse more people than we would actually help if you see what I mean. We aren't the only ones who do it. Escort owners are in a similar boat I believe with forums and groups counting each facelift as a new mk but Ford just called it a facelift.

Up to the end of the 6n aka mk4, we just went with how the cars were generally referred to in the UK and what most people called them. If you said "mk3 polo" to most people who were into their cars 10 years ago, they'd think one after the mk2, which was the one with the round headlights. More modern cars never really seemed to get referred to by mark, and the earlier cars are a lot less common in conversation now, so it kind of ran it's course.
