So i bought a 53 plate 1.2 Polo (first car) about a week ago and I've noticed that the rev counter and speedo hand things don't light up so it's a bit of a struggle at night. I'm assuming it's not meant to be like that...

Any help would be appreciated.

Are the fuel & water temp needles and the switches lit up OK ? if they are also dim, check to see (if fitted) the dimmer control by the main headlight switch isn't turned down, if the others are lit up OK it will be the LED's in the speedo unit that have failed, but it would be rare for both sets to fail

Thanks for the welcome, surprised at how fast the response was.

The other two are fine and the surrounding lights are alright. There isn't a dimmer switch or anything, i assumed it was either the LED's or a fuse. Any idea how i would go about fixing/replacing the LED's then?

The LED's can be replaced, I changed the LED's in my Octavia speedo

 

You can get the LED's from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310314933505?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=610026721096&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT  you just need a steady hand and a good small soldering iron, here's a guide Instrument Cluster LED Replacment v1-1.pdf  it's not for your speedo, but the methods are the same
