Started my double-din centre console conversion the other day, it was remotely easy! Started simple by getting the cage into the center console, started by using a dremmel but it proved to be making the work harder so ended up using a stanley blade:tongue: as you can tell the sizes are extremely different height and width wise, so, the mk2 Golf centre console will need trimming at the base

And it begins, cue the comments, haha! 8>)

That's looking good.

I feel sorry for the passenger's knee space, but they'll be so happy watching stuff on the screen.

Just tell each boyfriend he's the only one.

I'm hoping that the knee and leg space isn't too compromised :nea:

The height issue is still a problem, but my gear stick is in the way so I can't even see if it fits in so hopefully tomorrow when I put my springs on I will be able to size it up and trim it:D

Could you not remove the gear-lever surround opening and simply have carpet to rubber gaiter. Pretty sure Hillman Imp and Mk2 Escort did n't need plastic for the gear-lever to work.

So long as the gear lever does not hit the screeen....

I would like to keep the gear leaver surround to make it look more stock, but I may have to consider that if I can't get it on or if it gets annoying and in the way

Looking good! I will definitely watch this project as I would like to fit 2DIN in my Polo too someday. This idea is good, since making 2DIN hole in absolutely ugly imho

Started to cut the base today and managed to slide it into the car without the seats in, still not a great fit but it's getting there slowly  Connor angle grinded it for me because he likes to do things the 'easy' way

By not a great fit I mean, I can't open my ash tray and first and third gear are out of the question :sorry: it's getting there though, just got to slowly trim until it fits

I've seen it done on some golf's and it looks nice but I would never do it on Polo's, just ruins them

Yay angle grinder! That's nearly there. you are right to keep the surround. Cupholders?

Pimp my ride would be proud.

I'm putting cupholders where the stereo should be, got some cheap ones off ebay that have a coin holder too, should look something like this
