Installed H&R cup kit on my breadvan over the weekend however over bumps, even quite small ones, the coils are hitting each other causing an annoying metalllic clang and also wearing off the powder coating. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any ideas why this may be the case. Will be contacting h&r on Wednesday as I am out tomorrow and will be unable to call.

Mine does it done since i fitted the kit im not too bothered, Does it over speed bumps and pot holes for me generally things i try to avoid any way  but i agree its abit shit....

The springs apear to be progressive wound  but with the weight of the car on them the first 3 or so coils are permantly bottomed out. This is generllly a commen issue with lowing spring kits and if you cant get used too it  you might have to go down the coil over route. 

 

I was thinking of slideing some pipeing over mine like heat shrink or something to protect them but never got round to it.  Ive just used cavity wax all over everything and ACF50 to stop corrosion.

As said above, they may be progressively wound.

 

This is essentially a helper spring built into the main spring,

 

This means when the wheel is at full rebound, the spring remains located, however under the weight of the car, a few coils are softer which sit together, to get the lowered ride height. 

 

It may well be that speed bumps/large wheel inputs you are using that much rebound travel the softer coils are also becoming unloaded, then clashing back together back into compression.

 

What dampers are you using? I'd assume H&R ones have shorter travel, but often to get the desired ride height and main spring rates this two stage spring setup is necessary.

 

Pics may indicate something actually wrong, if not, some plastic tube or thick heat shrink type stuff around the offending coils may help reduce the noise/corrosion, however obviously the thicker the stuff you use, will slightly raise the car up.
