Well it was running....

Chasing down more issues after:

1) it decided to stop running on the motorway again, got recovered home, replaced the blue temp and it ran again

2) went to Wolverhampton VW to some pics with the new polo model for the Polo event that was on

On the way home, dizzy cap came loose and lunched itself and the rotor arm; replaced the items but was barely running but managed to limp it home sounding awful and no power (almost like running on three)

Queue replacing the entire dizzy and ignition leads to no avail, got the lambda sensor to replace this weekend with help from @Karl and his timing gun if we need it, kinda need to fix it this weekend with it being the Social next week!

In other news, an instagram post of mine was picked up by CarThrottle and it proved to be quite popular!

Also went on holiday to Germany at the end of May and met up with some of the German polo contingent and came back with some presents :-)

Time for an update on this!   After the balls up with the Valeo alternator, I put the feelers out for having the Bosch one refurbished.  A friend's step-dad said he take a look and only char

Lovely car.  I always wanted a g40 and eventually purchased one.  Completely standard apart from a jabba stage 4 charger rebuild.

it had an annoying problem that cost me a small fortune to resolve where by on Tickover it would keep stalling, at the time I was in contact with one of the original club members who had a k plate black g40.

i changed sensors, lambda sensor, rotor, leads, all pipes, cleared out breather at the back of engine, new dizzy, rotor, plugs.

eventually stealth racing had it and it was an old fault code that had not cleared.

yours sounds electrical and I recall the distributors being a problem on them, others have had earthing issues.  When they run they are like nothing else when problems they are a pain.

It may have been something daft but fell out of love with it after it let me down at 3 key events this year I needed it for so just wanted rid, now living somewhere near Swindon
