2005 Polo Front Wheel Bearings

Featured Replies

Hi, Im Martyn! :)

I have a job to do on a 2005 Polo ( Mk4), I need some pointers for a wheel hub bearing replacement.

I see many conflicting posts on various places of the tinterweb that confuse the bearings to be either race bearing/ pressed in type...or integral hub bearings.

The one I am going to be doing according to the factors will be a hub bearing.

I work in a garage and am confident with the spanners and most jobs.... however I dont have a press...I anticipate that I will be able to unbolt the bearing from the steering knuckle and knock it out...I also anticipate that the trackrod ends will likely become damaged on removal if not careful.

Can I also expect the ABS sensor to be damaged?...I recall replacing one on the REAR of an older Polo and the whole assembly had to be removed from the stub axle and be put on a vice..nightmare...

In short...are there any significant items for me to look outfor before I start or purchase parts...the job will be done when the motorfactors are closed so I wanna plan ahead!

Many thanks in advance!

Martyn
