Hi People, I'm 33 Married with kids and a mortgage but when opportunity arose to purchase a breadvan from 1989 (same year as my first car which was also a mk2 polo) I jumped at chance. It runs and drives but isn't gunna win any beauty pageants. Got it with long term intentions, never gunna be a show car,  more like a rat rod but if I can make some improvements (in my eyes) and relive my youth and have some fun doing it then why the hell not. Cleared the garage to make space and will spend as much free time as I can tinkering. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch but will give it a go and would appreciate any advice and help from you lot.

De-badged the rear. Not removed the wiper motor etc yet, just the arm.

Engine bay-needs a proper going over. Running rough.

My engine bay is in a similar state to yours think we have our work cut out! 

I was amazed to find so many parts for these cars still so don't get worried if you get stuck the people on here are really friendly,

Thanks fellas, appreciated. Got quite a few pics but all more than 2mb and causing a pain to upload.

Took rear wiper out now. 

Done some filler work, but not smoothed completely waiting on a new sander. 

Think im going for a lightweight style car, remove unnecessary fixtures and fittings. But keeping the rear seats as got kids and eventually would wanna take them out in it. Who knows may be could be their 1st car? Saying that probably be driven round by self controlling electric powered V dubs.

I do like the stripped bumper look. Need to get the indicators fitted to in a permanent position, but do like it where they are.

The green ? Frog is a McDs toy that my youngest liked so added to tow eye.

Came with some rusted steels, so whilst waiting for some decent cheap alloys just sprayed silver and added some skeleton dust caps!! Ha ah. They're safe on car when parked in garage.

Rear bumper removed. Been chucking it down with rain so did some indoor work.

Started on the offside wing. Got distracted and went off on a tangent.

Some preparation down the offside today. Had some rust around the petrol cap so treated that, not perfect still got some more sanding and tidying up to do. Also got the V5 for the car come through today, says colour Green.

Anybody have knowledge about what the colour is called?

When it finally comes round to paint or wrap was thinking to may be incorporate the original colour of green into it. But since I'm doing this for nostalgic purposes may take it to a red. Who knows. Time will tell.

Also forget to mention that I removed the trim around the B pillar. 

Bit more sanding. I know not the most exciting updates but keeps me smiling. 

Had some problems starting the car the day after a new battery was put in. Seems as though the fuel pump no longer wants to pump. Been waiting for the weekend to pick up the new pump and filter. Put some new spark plugs in as well. Didn’t wanna start on mechanical side of the project just yet but got tired of pushing in and out of garage. So will get it running and then turn my attention back to some bodywork and or may be some interior mods. Been happily stripping bits and bobs. Want to change the seats and change the door cards etc. Everything is on a budget, will never be a show quality car, but one day if I can get it as a daily driver then it would be as best said in GTA mission completed.

Had a new fuel pump and fuel filter fitted. Also from stripping back engine bay noticed the inlet manifold gasket was at the end of its life and also a new carburettor flange was required. 

Purchased and ready to fit.

Parts fitted and sorted starting issue even if running a bit rough, but that will be sorted in time. Due to weather and festive season not done much other than look online and think of all the possibilities. 

Still not sure of the colour of the car. Says green on V5. Looked grey before I started sanding away. Any ideas?

Does your log book color say "Jade grun" / jade green?

Mines the same and must admit i wasn't very fond of it at first but it's growing on me, 

I think if the paints dirty then it appears very grey or possibly looses it's greenness from UV as my under bonnet / interior is brighter , 

Saw this Jetta in the same shade on Pinterest and it gave me inspiration to keep it original

Hi, on the log book it just says green hence not having a clue about what the actual colour is. I’m not overly concerned with keeping originality, already given it a black primer coat down one side of car. But not done much/anything over the New Year, been waiting for weather to pick up, and also not in any rush to complete. Although would be nice to move it on a bit.
