Hi all,

 

First post, apologies if it's been covered before but I couldn't find anything in the FAQ or search to help me out with this.

 

I've just bought my first mk2 and it's got the weber 32 tla carb with auto-choke. The clown who sold it to me had tried to start it up by pouring petrol directly into the carb and the resulting fire managed to take out most of vacuum routing and wiring to the carb. I'm in the process of getting everything back together but the Haynes isn't much help. If anyone has nice clear pics of the tubes and wires on their weber carbs it would really help me out.

I think this a 32TLA... Niet ! It is Pierburg 1B3

1B3 and TLA both have Idle stabilisation device on bulkhead which takes vacuum from engine.

This is Haynes golf and jetta 84 -92 chapter 4A page 14..

 

Three vacuum lines reach carb. One from that stabilisation device. I think 5 should say "To idle adjusting solenoid".

So just 13 and 14 to fix.

 

Did the petrol lines survive?

I think Tony @hillmanie has got a 32TLA and is on the emerald isle. Dunno if he's got photo of engine bay with air cleaner removed?

I can get a picture of mine tomorrow if that'll help?

Can you explain this a bit? Whereabouts on the engine do these vacuum lines attach? I can see from your diagram that #5 (green originally) goes to the idle adjust on the front of the carb. Where does #6 (red originally) go on a car with no brake servo, and what about the line on the other side of the valve (not shown)?

Brake servos get their vacuum from engine. Any tap on inlet manifold or on carb below throttle plate will provide unmetered vacuum.

Might be a T joint to the hot air flap mechanism in air filter.

 

Thought there were only two pipe connections and one electrical switch in the idle stabilisation valve...

Don't have one myself.
