Alternative to front link panel across engine bay

I was thinking of cutting out the panel that links the front inner wings of my Mk2 and replacing it with two parallel thin section square tubes. Mine is very rusty and I think I will end up with a  lot more access to the engine, turbo, radiator, intercooler and exhaust. I intend to brace the front of the car with the engine out to stop any movement of the front wings with some temporary tubing welded in while I cut one the original panel. Careful measuring will be needed to relocate the bonnet catch, top radiator mounts, bonnet bump stops and headlight frames. There will be small sections that I cut out of the original panel and weld back into place on the square tubing to maintain their position. Small cross braces will be welded in where the top radiator mounts are so they can be bolted down. The radiator grill can also be bolted to the tubing making it far stronger than the original. Threads for bolts will be made with rivnuts. If anyone has comments about what I intend to do especially if you have any ideas.
