I have a polo 1.4 TDI from 2005 which uses a 'remote key shell fob' - (see key fob image).

 

I am wanting to buy another fob, I am wondering how you would go about setting it up to configure with my car's alarm system?

 

Better still, is it possible to change from the key fob to a normal key like newer cars use?

That doesn't look like a standard VW key, has it got some aftermarket alarm system fitted ?

Yes i believe it has a 'cobra' alarm system.

In that case you won't be able to use an OEM key fob, the other option would be to replace the CCM under the dash with one that has the alarm built into it, then you could use the normal VW flip key fob
