Hello,

 

I own a 1998 VW Polo Classic, with 1.6 75HP Petrol Engine (AEE code) - 8 Valve.  

I recently noticed what appears to be a small vacuum hose going out of the intake manifold which is not connected to anything.

It's right next to the break vacuum line - added a couple of images to clarify.

 

Does anyone know what this hose is meant to do, and where should it be connected to?

Typo correction

As far as I can tell, it's supposed to be like that.

It's number 12 and it is labelled as Vacuum Hose in the description.

It doesn't link to anything.

Looks like it should go to the carbon canister valve on the inner wing ?

@nige8021 I'm not really sure which one is the carbon canister valve.

 

In the interim, I've tried plugging it in the Fuel Rail pressure regulator to the upper left (it just seem to be conveniently placed):

 

At first the engine started idling at 1100 RPM (which is slightly high), then after 1 min it dropped to 800 RPM, and seems to work function normally.

That being said, I'm still unsure if that's the correct spot, or it just happened to be working after I've placed it there. 

 

@Gooly I see in your image that the fuel rail pressure regulator does have a hose going into the tiny out-most slot (the one also visible in my image).

Does the place you took the diagram from provide any info on that?

I wonder if it's possible for it to be the same hose, but drawn like that due to lack of space.

The fuel pressure regulator should have a vacuum connection 

Thanks for the info - it seems that the regulator did not have any other vacuum connection except for that.

I think it's safe to assume that the hose should indeed link to the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
