I think the Haynes wiring diagram for a mk2f polo (1990-1994) has an error on the single point fuel injection schematic:

the petrol pump relay (NUMBER 23, low on the left) is wired in a very awkward way:

it appears that the fuel injector (NUMBER 28) is wired in series with the relay coil (relay pins 85 and 86) and the fuel pumps (NUMBER 30 and 31) via fuse F1 which is nonsense.

also the +12V arriving at the relay contact 30 (battery positive) is switched to contact 87 which then goes to battery positive via the key switch???

 

i had a friend search in ElsaWin but apparently there is a wiring diagram only for polos from 1995+  (mk3), and I cannot find anything on the web either...

 

do any of you have an alternative wiring diagram to show, please?

 

 

Unfortunately, I do not have a definitive answer to your problem.

I have spent ages looking at the diagram that you have provided, and as you say, in is nonsense.

You would expect the positive feeds to the pumps, Lambda heater and injector would be from 87 on the relay, which is a contact. The feed into the relay contact  (30) MAY be correct.

The cable sizes also point to a mix up, as 2.5 cable feeds the contact in the drawing, branching off to the control unit in 1.0 and the 'output' in 0.5

 

The only suggestions that I can make are: (a) Send a letter (rather than an email) to Mr Haynes and ask them for clarification, stating the number of the manual that you have (its at the top of the spine as well as on the front cover) (b) You may be able to make more sense of this if you check the actual cable colours on the car.

Fella - you are over thinking this.

They are littered with errors, in my experience wrong torque values are the ones they screw up the most. 

 

Don't even get me started on the paper back versions they now sell!

 

Drop me a PM I have the factory wiring diagram folder for the mk2fs but it's in German but can follow the lines and match the colours then translate the bits you need and it's accurate.

 

Is it AAU or AAV as they have different diagrams? (7 A4 pages).

I see you also own (or used to) a mk2f G40. I have one from 1991, you know, the good stuff without catalitic converter. Hey, I know this is a bit too late to come here in 2024 asking for this but, I was wondering if you still got those mk2f factory diagrams and if you could send them to me, please. I'm having trouble with grounds in the ECU wiring loom and, I am not able to acertain, from the Haynes repair manual, just were exactly those grounds should come from, or go to. The grounds (E5,E12) from the Haynes manual diagrams don't seem to be accurate, when I test them with my multimeter in continuity. Or maybe I'm getting it wrong. I have got the Elsawin software installed and changed language to german. I was able to access the factory workshop manual, but the electrical diagrams are not there, I get a message in german saying the data is not available or something (see the attached screenshots). I have installed both Elsawin 5 and 6 versions and I get the same result. If you could help me out that would mean a lot.
