My sister has a 2010 Polo with the 1.6tdi 75ps CAYA engine. 

 

I need to remove the front section of the exhaust (from turbo outlet to mid section) because the flexi pipe just before the cat has a tear in it. We think this was the root cause of a bigger issue we have now with DPF light being on constantly and the glow plug light flashing (as well as car being in limp mode). 

 

I’ve managed to get the section of exhaust off that includes the cat up to the flexi ( it tore right off) but I can’t get the DPF section out. Everything is disconnected but there is no clearance to bring it up or drop it down due to its shape. 

 

Has anyone done this before? I know I’m going to have to remove more parts to gain clearance but I was look for advice on the most efficient approach before I work it out for myself.

I am trying to visualise your problem - maybe a photograph would help us to answer your problem.

 

I am wondering if the leaking flexible section is the total cause of the warning light being 'on',

Is the inside of the outlet from the turbo anything like 'oily' ? I ask this, because a turbo bearing that passes oil into the exhaust can cause the light to come 'on' - as can very short journeys, which don't give the filter enough time to clean itself.

 

Wynn's produce a PDF cleaning additive, which may well help if the car does indeed only make short journeys. I haven't used this product myself, and in general, I am not much in favour of additive's, but Wynn's have been around for years, and they do have an excellent reputation, I have seen some really good results from their other products.

I don't have a photo of the actual unit but I have attached one i found on Google which is identical. My flexi is torn (now completely in two).

 

I actually have an update on the car. I did have to drop the front subframe in order to get the section out that connects to turbo (I assumed this is the DPF and the cat is the cylindrical part?)

 

I sent both parts off to The DPF Clean Team and they confirmed both the cat and dpf were blocked based on flow rate tests. I have had both parts returned and I'm now waiting for a mobile mechanic to visit on Tuesday next week to weld a new flexi between the cat and DPF and I can then refit. For refitting the subframe will need to be completely removed as the section will be going back on in one large piece rather than two smaller pieces.

As for turbo connector, it was dry.

Everything bolted back on. Still have flashing glow plug light, solid DPF light and solid ECU light. Need to get codes read again, hopefully they just need resetting.
