Had a look through old posts and found a fair few postitive comments about fitting a lower 'Ged-style' strut brace between the ARB mounts, e.g., one from PPP:

Thing is, it seems to me that most people who modify their suspension like this have already gone down the road of lowering / stiffer shocks / stiff bushes etc. I've kept my bready OEM style and would like to keep it that way as much as possible - is a front strut brace going to be as excellent a mod as it appears to be?

 

I understand the reasoning and physics behind it but the main reason I'd like one is how my bready has been handling since i replaced all the front bushes - it feels so much stiffer! It used to handle like a full bathtub! So having caught the bug I'd like to improve the handling even more - especially if its such a cheap and simple job.

 

100% Worth it? Any downsides?

I'd also like to add that I drive like a boring old sod: i.e safely. I'm only really interested in mods that would benefit safe driving. I can imagine it would be good to have solidly planted wheels in the event of having to manoeuvre around a bit of motorway debris at speed though!

How so? Are the forces across the chassis not high enough during normal driving?

Centre of gravity is a bit as high standard. But once you start lowering the geometry needs more compensation.

A front brace or "GED bar" doesn't do that much in all honesty. They still allow the very floppy front end to flex and don't fix any of the understeer these cars suffer from. 

The best modification is a stage 2 subframe. They give a very noticeable improvement in handling especially initial turn in. Makes the front end feel a lot more grippy and positive.
