2010 6r - broken bonnet release. Can it be done from outside?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I hope this is the right place

I have a polo 6r 2010 and the bonnet cable has been stiff for a while now but recently the handle broke and the cable snapped at the end.

I now cannot get the bonnet open in order to change the cable.

I was quoted 220 for the garage to fix so I thought I'd rather do it myself as I've done most small jobs before and I can't afford that.

Please can anyone help? The remnants of the car are in the pic.

Not specific 6r, but just general:

If there's enough cable left to get a pair of locking pliers on it, get a mate to push down a little on the bonnet where the catch is while you pull the cable.

Once it's open, clean and lube the catch up, if you're not replacing the cable, run some oil down it and work the cable back and forwards like you would on a bike brake cable.
