Hi all,

 

My mk2 Saloon has been off the road for a couple of years now since the carb flange failed. The fella that owned the car before me took off the original bin lid air filter and put on a tall and heavy K&N one without fastening it down in any way. I don't know how long it was on there before my ownership but it has torn the rubber that sits between the carb  and the inlet manifold and it is no longer airtight enough for the carb to work. It's a non-runner. I've tried to fix the existing part with some PU but it's still not airtight.

 

I know the part I need is 052 129 765 B but I've been told that they stopped making them in 2007 and can't find any stock anywhere. I really don't want to go as far as an engine swap, and mine being the 1050cc engine introduces complications. 

 

Does anyone know of a clever workaround or where I might be able to get my hands on that precious part? I'm really quite stuck and just want the car back on the road!

ive seen a few with a thick lump of alloy cut to shape and threaded to take the studs /bolts ...if youre well into diy its possible

Have you asked VWHeritage?

 

But If that's a Solex pic31 carb the spindle will likely be worn too, so DIY mount with gasket cork/rubber might not help for long.

How about change to Pierburg 1b3 carb or Weber 32TLM or 32TLA using  the more common mounting flange?  

VWHeritage got back to me today with the following: "Sadly it looks like <part number> is now no longer available new so you will likely have to source one second hand" 😣

 

It's already a Weber 321BF carb interestingly, and I got that part number from the existing flange... curious? 

32 IBF was on 1093cc from 1978. Wonder if it is a conversion?

 

and on some 1043cc from 1981, so no.

Did you try Crazy Quiffs or any Mk1 Golf specialist places?? Maybe same as Mk1 Golf 1100cc

Thanks for the suggestion but it's doesn't look to fit. The current flange has 4 captive bolts that fasten down through the manifold. I've still not made any progress 😕

I'm also after the part you need ending in B, did you have any luck finding one?
