My “Jazzy”s build diary mk2f

Featured Replies

This is the start of my build diary, I recently bought my first car, a beautiful polo mk2f 1.3 “jazz”, 114k on clock, I believe it’s a NZ engine due to the flying saucer on my dizzy cap.

ive already had to fit a new fuel tank to her

took me a while, as getting the old neck past some one else’s shoddy attempt at weld the arches up got in the way so just snapped the neck off in the end. Here the new tank fitted👍.

And I’ve just bought a set of bike carbs CV (Yamaha Fazer 600 36mm) and now I’m waiting on the pipe to turn up so I can fabricate me a set of manifolds for The carbs. I loved to tinker with bikes, now it’s time to turn my hand to cars😊😉👍 will post some photos of what I’ve got so far tomorrow morning.

Check the inner arch where the filler goes for rot

Its a common place to happen on these

Start making the manifold up for carbs I’m happy with it so far, once I’m back at the W/shop after all this corona blows over, I’ll make them all in aluminium but for now I got make them in mild steel cause that all I can do from home😉.

And also started the mirror polishing off on the intake side of the carb’s, and now they’re ready to be rebuilt and have the final polish polish on them, and my next venture is figuring out how to sort out the vac advance dizzy, being at the moment it takeS it vacuum from one carb all intake ports at the same time, now they all have separate throttle so the pulse will be off with out connecting them all together, I got a idea in mind as to how I’m going to get round it problem, I’m thinking something to connect them all together in a mini vacuum plenum thing sitting above the manifolds😆.

SFS are decent hoses.

NIce fuel tank, I like the way you but the black rubber strips on.

Have you a link to them? I guess they absorb shock or something.

Biggest Q is, did you paint the fuel tank,?

I found the 'galvanisation' to be nice to have, but nowhere tough enough to last real world. Hence I would encourage you to paint filler neck at least if you haven't.

Wow is all I have to say, people were right buying a first car that’s older than me wasn’t the best idea, but what a journey it has been so far.

Mk2 polopower no sorry no link to the foam, it’s just something my workshop had just laying around, no not painted the fuel tank as Im crazy and don’t plan on keep it the fuel tank under the car, as I’m hoping at some point there will be a driveshaft going right through the middle of it were it is located currently,  and you are right I do need to put some galvathroid/paint on the tank ;)

Lots of updates coming no amazing new performance parts yet, as I’m to busy chasing faults and making everything new again so the same fault shouldnt occur again, fingers crossed
