Hi all, I have an early mk2 bready, bought as a non running project, AFH conversion is so close to being finished!. Turns out previous owner fitted the larger tank which has caused handbrake issues.

 

I have sourced a new 36l tank from heritage however I am REALLY struggling to find a fuel sender! I am assuming the sender in the larger tank would be invalid for the 36litre one.

 

Does anyone know where I can get a new or secondhand fuel sender?

might well work...all it needs to do is reach the bottom when empty /top when full....id imagine top and bottom of the tank is the same place regardless

I moved 36l sender to 42l tank no problem. 

(with brake cables adapted from Scirocco and later brake lever and later mount)

 

Sender plastic was a little brittle, but crossed screwdrivers undid it.

Move it somewhere warm (inside the car in the sun?) before attempting to remove it.

 

You should get a new big o-ring with new tank; I suggest you use it.

Looks very like Scirocco/Golf carb sender but for the straighter wire to the float.

I can imagine it working that way round for you, reason why i'm concerned is being a shallower tank i'm curious to know if the metal rod part is shorter for the 36l tanks? 

for now I will try my current 42l sender, I have saved your web link as a back up for now.

Erm, 42 l tank is wider than 36 l, however it is same depth.

 

Same front to back dimension below rear seat but the wheel for brake cable pulley in the way, same strap to hold it in place.

Golf Mk2 tank is deeper and plastic. 

 

Doubt it would fit a Polo as longer front to back.
