Update on my problems, Having spoken with Pete who was more than happy to refurb my window motor, I was able to borrow a known working window module to test out my original before posting it off..i still have exactly the same symptoms…so i will be looking again at wiring faults.

 

The 3 fuses that Pete advised me to check are all intact.

I also had a major problem with the door lock module after buying another to fit, it failed in the half latched closed position so I couldn’t get the door open again from in our out, 4 hours of frustration later I have opened the door again thankfully only damaging the lock unit.

i will be looking at wiring to the door lock module first as I still can’t lock door from drivers side after replacing lock module.

 

As an aside my polo is early 2008 and has seemingly less going on in the window motor as only has one connector to plug in.

Is the ecu part still in it or has it moved elsewhere on the car ?

 

ECU bit is still in there, just repackaged into a more compact form.

 

 

Great stuff thanks Pete, some progress just now think I have found my problem!

As well as the corrosion at least 2 of the male side pins are missing..one of them is the lilac/white which I think you said was passenger window ? will need to source new pins to crimp on !

Yes, definitely got wet for some time that.  I can probably find you a part number for the pins, with a bit of head scratching and ploughing through ETKA info. May need new female inserts in the corresponding door loom plug too.

 

Ah yes please I have waded through pics of terminals and connectors online and it’s a minefield! They look to be about 0.5mm.

the 20 odd pin connector block they go in is 6Q0 972 737 

 

Male pins are 000979012E, I think, like these. 

Female, door loom mating part is 000979009E I think. Seem to be far more widely available from UK sources on ebay etc than the male ones.

I think the part number for the rubber boot including the crucial-but-very-breakable white retaining bit at A-pillar end is on page 2 of this thread. 

Muuuuch easier to leave white bit in rubber and click whole lot into place together, rather than trying to fit rubber onto that white bit in-situ.

 

 

This ebay seller has the female inserts pre-crimped onto repair wires, may be worth asking if they do the corresponding male ones too, or can confirm the part number is as I mentioned above: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315121321097

 

Thats fantastic thank you, the male pins on amazon wouldn't be here until 11th April, I have ordered some on amazon for a bmw connector repair as a gamble to see if they fit, but they look like the 0.5mm pins.

I will message the eBay seller good tip !

Quick update...I ordered some male pins from amazon meant for bmw but they are mqs fittings by tyco and are very similar with the 0.5mm pin...they don't stay in quite as well as genuine pins but I was able to fit them to test whether everything would work again if I replaced the pins and cleaned up the others....they did ! all working !!!

 

Pete, I have ordered the correct pins from Latvia using that link with part number 000979012E you supplied, the eBay link you suggested to contact don't supply the pins on their own only in repair wire form @ £10 a go so have ordered the pins and accepting the wait !

Just thought I would offer some feedback following the support that Pete offered me with our faulty drivers window/central locking unit. A replacement was sent out to me which I fitted accordingly, boxed up my old unit in the packaging and returned to Pete, the replacement unit works superbly and I cannot thank Pete enough for his support and knowledge. I highly recommend Pete in resolving this issue. Thanks again Pete!

New member here. Found this thread whilst continually searching for info on how to fix my window issue. Loads of great info in this thread that has prompted me to message you.

Not a Polo owner, but a VW T5 2009 owner.  

My issue is my drivers side window & central locking (from door switch only, not from key fob). After having my door card off numerous times over 2yrs (as well as under steering wheel panels) & many hours of trouble shooting door wire loom etc, I believe my drivers door motor (or at least the PCB within) may be the suspect.

If you still do your repair/exchange of units, could you possibly email me to discuss further.

 

My motor is an 6Q1959801F (VW750D2DRS)

I'm not a Polo owner but have a VW Transporter T5 2009.

My driver's side window & central locking switches hadn't really functioned since Dec 2020. Maybe 2 sporadic periods of a few weeks where they did.

I chanced across Pete's post on this thread whilst searching the net (endlessly it seems for T5 issues) for insights on what the culprit could be. Countless times has my door card been off, under dash trim removed, switches checked, double checked, triple, motor removed & inspected, wire loom unravelled, wires inspected, multi meter out again & again, head frustratingly scratched, & foul language spewed from lips.

 

Nearly bought a replacement door loom. Then nearly bought a replacement motor off Ebay.

 

I messaged Pete just this Sat evening, & over this May bank holiday wknd, with his kind assistance via WhatsApp, between us we cracked the problem, & I now have fully functioning windows for first time.

 

I will say that Pete's services would be a great addition to the VW T4/T5 forum, as I can assure you, they'll be many a T5 owner that are in the same boat with these window motor issues.

This service is awesome. Pete is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Repairing an old unit is far better than getting one from a breakers yard (which may not work) and much cheaper than getting one from e-bay etc.

I was having problems with the central locking on my wife’s 2 door Polo. Then both windows stopped working completely. Researching the problem I came upon this thread. I checked the fuses and wiring - everything seemed OK. So I suspected the window control unit.

Pete’s service was also extremely efficient. I contacted him on Monday morning with nothing more than the reg. number and VIN. He agreed with my original diagnosis, identified the correct part from the details I’d given and confirmed he had a replacement unit in stock. It was posted same day and I received it Tuesday morning. Fitted it and everything worked – brilliant. I returned my old unit Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday lunchtime the rebate was in my account. Throughout the whole process Pete kept me informed by e-mail of what was happening.

This must be the most efficient service I’ve ever come across and I highly recommend it.
