Hi!

 

Just changed the spark plugs today, and the engine stutters every now and then - how do i find the correct gap measure for the specific engine to fix this?

 

As mentioned above, it's a 1.4 8v, (not the 16v).

Do you know what the engine code is ? it will be on a sticker in the boot by the spare wheel area or on the cambelt cover it should be 3 letters and if you were UK based the engine serial number on the vehicles government issued log book that contains the engine code, by the year I would expect it to be probably AUD but really need the code to give accurate information

Thanks a lot - it's nice to have somewhere to go with these issues.

 

Here's a picture of the label underneath the boot. Can't find anything resembling an engine code though - perhaps you can.

Your engine is AKK code ( Gearbox ETD)  and the recommended spark plugs are NGK PZFR 5 D-11 with a gap of 1.0 ~ 1.1mm  tightened to 30Nm

Last thing - if one does not own a spark plug measuring tool, or one for adjustning this, what to use instead?

A set of feeler gauges can be bought from most motor factors for less than £10 in the UK but most spark plugs I've bought were already set at the correct gaps but a good steel ruler should tell you if they are close enough to 1mm (might need a magnifying glass to see accurately I know with my eyesight I would 🙂 )

10 or 11 sheets of normal 80gm printer paper should give you 1.0mm
