That’s interesting, the air con doesn’t work anymore.  I’m not sure if the fans should come on when air con switched on but they didn’t.  Also they didn’t come on after I switched the engine off. I got the engine fairly warm, up to the mid point on the temperature gauge…

 

 

 

 

I had a feeling it probably didn't work. It could well be that neither fan is currently operational, or perhaps the main fan may only work at full speed (engine has to get a bit hotter for this).  Worth checking out before summertime.

 

If aircon is working to any degree, it provides a quick and easy way to check fan function; with a warm engine on a warm day, switching it on and demanding some coldness should result in both fans starting up at low speed within a short time. With cold engine, it may take a little longer but same parallel fan action should happen.

 

Alternative testing can be done via linking pins in the thermoswitch loom connector, but access to that is a bit awkward.

Are all of the strip fuses intact? One of them supplies current to fans when they are at full speed.

 

I wish you were a little closer so I could help investigate this car's problems in a more hands-on way.

Hi Pete, no progress today. I was at the rugby watching Gloucester beat Bath 64 nil.  So cause for celebration.  Hope you’re not a Bath fan.
